What is Docs Logger?

The Docs Logger skill provides a streamlined way for AI agents and developers to maintain persistent, cloud-based activity logs. By utilizing the PortEden Secure Access CLI, it transforms Google Drive into a structured logging backend where each day's activities are captured in a dedicated document. This approach, part of the wider ecosystem of Openclaw Skills, ensures that audit trails and event logs are easily accessible, searchable, and shareable without the overhead of managing local file systems or complex database infrastructures.

Docs Logger Use Cases

  • Tracking automated deployment successes and production environment health checks.
  • Maintaining a centralized audit trail for multi-agent workflows and task results.
  • Creating automated daily stand-up notes or developer journals based on CLI activity.
  • Consolidating error logs and system events from distributed environments into a single chronological view.

How Docs Logger Works

  1. The skill checks for a persistent logging folder in Google Drive defined by the PE_LOG_FOLDER environment variable.
  2. Upon a logging request, it searches for a document named with the current date (YYYY-MM-DD) within that folder.
  3. If a document for the current day does not exist, the skill automatically creates one using the Google Docs API.
  4. Log lines are appended to the end of the document, ensuring an immutable-style chronological record of events.
  5. AI agents can utilize compact JSON output to efficiently read or verify log status during execution.

Docs Logger Setup

To integrate this functionality into your environment, follow these steps using the PortEden CLI:

# Install the necessary utility
brew install porteden/tap/porteden

# Authenticate your Google account
porteden auth login

# Create your primary logging directory
porteden drive mkdir --name "PE_Logs" -jc

# Set your environment variable with the returned folder ID
export PE_LOG_FOLDER="google:YOUR_FOLDER_ID"

Docs Logger Data Schema & Taxonomy

Docs Logger organizes information using a simple but effective taxonomy within Google Drive:

Entity Format Description
Log Folder PE_Logs The parent container for all daily log documents.
File Name YYYY-MM-DD Individual Google Docs named by date for automatic chronological sorting.
Log Line [HH:MM:SSZ] Event... Pipe-delimited strings containing timestamp, source, and status.
File IDs google:uuid Provider-prefixed unique identifiers used for all API operations.

Docs Logger Advanced Features

  • Optimized for AI agents using the -jc flag to provide compact JSON responses and reduce token usage.
  • Support for batch logging, allowing multiple log entries to be sent in a single API call using newline characters.
  • Secure credential management via system keyring integration, eliminating the need for repeated logins.
  • Multi-profile support via environment variables to separate logs between different projects or clients within Openclaw Skills.
