What is Email Bridge?

Email Bridge is a specialized utility designed to bridge the gap between traditional email services and modern AI agents. It provides a secure, local-first environment for monitoring Gmail, QQ Mail, and NetEase accounts. By integrating this tool into your environment, you leverage Openclaw Skills to transform messy, HTML-heavy emails into sanitized, machine-readable data that AI models can safely process without the risk of prompt injection.

The skill focuses on privacy and efficiency, utilizing subject-only classification for lightning-fast categorization. It is particularly effective for users who need their AI assistants to respond to real-time events, such as security alerts or transactional updates, while maintaining a strict security posture through local credential storage.

Email Bridge Use Cases

  • Automatically extracting verification codes (OTP) for seamless login automation.
  • Receiving real-time notifications of security alerts or login warnings from multiple providers.
  • Sanitizing complex HTML emails into clean text for LLM summarization and analysis.
  • Monitoring transactional emails like order confirmations and shipping updates for automated tracking.

How Email Bridge Works

  1. The user configures email accounts via a secure CLI, which stores credentials locally in an encrypted or protected directory.
  2. A background daemon is initiated to monitor incoming mail via IMAP IDLE for real-time providers or polling for API-based services like Gmail.
  3. Upon receiving a new message, the bridge applies subject-only classification to categorize the email into one of seven smart categories.
  4. The system extracts relevant metadata, including verification codes and action links, while stripping harmful HTML tags and invisible characters.
  5. Structured notifications are dispatched via Openclaw Skills system events, allowing an AI agent to act upon the email content immediately.

Email Bridge Setup

# Navigate to your skills directory and install
cd skills/email-bridge
pip install -e .

# Interactively add your email accounts
email-bridge accounts add [email protected] -p qq

# Verify your configuration and sync messages
email-bridge sync

# Launch the background daemon for real-time updates
email-bridge daemon start -d

Email Bridge Data Schema & Taxonomy

Email Bridge organizes its operations within the ~/.email-bridge/ directory using the following structure:

Component Format Description
email_bridge.db SQLite Local database storing account metadata and message history
config.json JSON Global settings for polling intervals and notification depth
daemon.pid Text Process ID file for managing the background service
gmail/ Directory Stores OAuth credentials and tokens required for Google API access

Email Bridge Advanced Features

  • Prompt injection protection that filters dangerous instruction patterns from incoming email bodies.
  • Context-aware extraction logic that minimizes false positives when identifying verification codes.
  • Smart HTML sanitization that removes zero-width spaces and normalized whitespace for better AI comprehension.
  • Multi-provider support allowing simultaneous management of Gmail, QQ Mail, and NetEase accounts within one interface.
  • Customizable notification payloads that can include or exclude body previews based on privacy needs.
