What is Lark IM Skill?

The Lark IM skill provides a robust bridge between AI agents and the Lark/Feishu instant messaging platform. By utilizing this integration within the ecosystem of Openclaw Skills, developers can empower their agents to perform complex communication tasks such as sending rich-media messages, managing group memberships, and retrieving historical chat data. It abstracts the complexities of the Lark API into high-level shortcuts and native resource methods, supporting both user and bot identities for flexible permission handling.

Lark IM Skill Use Cases

  • Automating team notifications and status updates within specific Lark channels.
  • Building AI-driven support bots that can reply to threads and manage emoji reactions.
  • Programmatically managing group chat configurations and member lists.
  • Searching and extracting information from historical messages for knowledge retrieval.
  • Automating the download and processing of files or images shared in chats.

How Lark IM Skill Works

  1. The AI agent calls the lark-cli through the Openclaw Skills framework to initiate a specific IM action.
  2. The skill determines the execution identity based on the --as user or --as bot flag to select the appropriate access token.
  3. Requests are routed to the Lark API to interact with resources like messages, chats, or members.
  4. For complex tasks, the skill utilizes Shortcuts to combine multiple API calls into a single high-level operation, such as searching for a chat ID by name before sending a message.
  5. The results, including message IDs (om_xxx) and chat IDs (oc_xxx), are returned to the agent for further processing.

Lark IM Skill Setup

To use this skill, you must first install the Lark CLI and ensure your environment is authenticated via the lark-shared configuration.

# Install the Lark CLI tool
npm install -g @larksuite/cli

# Review authentication and permissions in lark-shared
lark-cli schema im.chats.list

Lark IM Skill Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data around specific resource identifiers and supports various content types:

Resource ID Prefix Description
Message om_xxx Single message unit (text, post, image, file)
Chat oc_xxx Group chat or P2P conversation container
Thread omt_xxx Reply thread hierarchy within a chat
Reaction N/A Emoji-based feedback on specific messages

Data is exchanged using JSON, and message types include text, markdown, post, and interactive cards.

Lark IM Skill Advanced Features

  • Identity Mapping: Switch seamlessly between user and bot identities to manage permissions and visibility.
  • Idempotency Support: Use idempotency keys when sending messages to prevent duplicate delivery in unstable network conditions.
  • Thread-Aware Messaging: Full support for listing and replying to specific message threads to maintain context.
  • Resource Management: Built-in capabilities for uploading images and downloading files directly from chat streams.
  • Advanced Search: Filter messages by keyword, sender, and time range across multiple chats with automatic pagination.
