What is lmfiles?

lmfiles is a streamlined file hosting solution built to bridge the gap between local file systems and AI agent workflows. By providing a simple API-driven interface, it allows developers using Openclaw Skills to programmatically upload files and receive public URLs for easy sharing and retrieval.

Designed with simplicity in mind, it handles account registration via bootstrap tokens and manages file lifecycles efficiently. This makes it an ideal tool for AI coding agents that need to share assets, logs, or processed data with external users or other systems without complex infrastructure overhead.

lmfiles Use Cases

  • Generating public download links for files created by AI agents.
  • Quick command-line file hosting during development sprints.
  • Storing and retrieving metadata for files used in Openclaw Skills workflows.
  • Sharing bot-accessible file uploads across distributed teams.
  • Automating file cleanup and account management via API.

How lmfiles Works

  1. Initialize the account by registering with a unique bootstrap token to receive a permanent API key.
  2. Configure environment variables to authenticate subsequent API requests securely.
  3. Upload files up to 100MB directly from the CLI or within Openclaw Skills logic.
  4. Receive a public file ID and URL for immediate download or sharing.
  5. Manage the file lifecycle by checking metadata, listing hosted files, or deleting them as needed.

lmfiles Setup

To begin using this skill, you must first register your account. Set your bootstrap token and run the registration command:

export LMFILES_BOOTSTRAP_TOKEN="your-bootstrap-token"

curl -sS -X POST https://lmfiles.com/api/v1/accounts/register \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"username":"my-bot","bootstrap_token":"'"$LMFILES_BOOTSTRAP_TOKEN"'"}'

Once registered, save the returned api_key and export it for use with Openclaw Skills:

export LMFILES_API_KEY="lmf_your_key_here"

lmfiles Data Schema & Taxonomy

The service organizes data based on user accounts and specific file identifiers. All uploads are associated with the API key owner.

Attribute Description
file_id Unique identifier for the uploaded file
url Publicly accessible download link
metadata Includes file size, upload date, and inactivity expiry
username The account name associated with the upload

Files expire after 90 days of inactivity, though every download resets the expiry clock to ensure active assets remain available within Openclaw Skills projects.

lmfiles Advanced Features

  • Bootstrap token rotation for enhanced account security.
  • Automatic 90-day expiry clock reset upon every file download to maintain persistent assets.
  • Programmatic file deletion for automated storage management within Openclaw Skills.
  • Metadata lookup endpoints to verify file integrity and size before downloading.
  • Helper scripts for batch listing and managing account-wide assets via terminal.
