What is Full Backup?

The Full Backup skill provides a reliable way to safeguard your development environment within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It automates the creation of a complete local archive, capturing both the workspace and system configurations to ensure data persistence and easy recovery. By focusing on local storage, it offers a quick and accessible redundancy layer for developers managing their own instances.

This skill is designed to be lean and efficient, utilizing a dedicated shell script that handles the heavy lifting of file compression while respecting safe exclusion rules. It is an essential tool for anyone looking to maintain a rigorous backup regimen without relying on external cloud services.

Full Backup Use Cases

  • Creating a point-in-time snapshot before performing major configuration updates.
  • Manually triggering a workspace archive via a Telegram command when away from the terminal.
  • Implementing a routine local data redundancy strategy for self-hosted setups.
  • Safeguarding critical project files and configurations before system migrations.

How Full Backup Works

  1. The skill receives a trigger, such as a natural language request or the /fullbackup command via a connected bot.
  2. It invokes the bundled full-backup.sh wrapper script located within the skill directory.
  3. The script identifies the workspace and configuration directories while applying exclusions for logs and cache files.
  4. A compressed archive is generated and moved to the persistent backup directory at /root/.openclaw/backups.
  5. Upon completion, the skill provides a summary including the final archive path and the size of the generated file.

Full Backup Setup

To initiate a manual backup, you can execute the bundled wrapper script directly from your terminal:

bash /root/.openclaw/workspace/skills/fullbackup/scripts/full-backup.sh

No additional configuration is required as the skill is pre-configured to work within the standard directory structure of Openclaw Skills.

Full Backup Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes its output and processes data according to the following schema:

Attribute Specification
Backup Directory /root/.openclaw/backups
Excluded Paths System caches and log files
Archive Content Workspace files and OpenClaw configuration
Script Path /root/.openclaw/workspace/skills/fullbackup/scripts/full-backup.sh

Full Backup Advanced Features

  • Telegram Integration: Supports the /fullbackup command for remote execution.
  • Optimized Archiving: Automatically excludes non-essential data like caches and logs to save space.
  • Retention Policy: Built-in safety logic ensures that older archives are not deleted during new backup cycles.
  • CLI Accessibility: Can be easily integrated into crontabs or other automation workflows outside of the Openclaw Skills interface.
