What is Glim?

Glim is a revolutionary, hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to give AI agents immediate access to real-time external data. By consolidating eleven specialized tools into a single endpoint, Glim allows agents to fetch up-to-date information from Twitter, Reddit, GitHub, Amazon, and YouTube transcripts, as well as perform semantic web searches. It eliminates the friction of provisioning, rotating, and managing API keys for individual platforms, operating instead on a seamless pay-per-call model.

As part of the broader ecosystem of Openclaw Skills, Glim addresses the critical data-freshness bottleneck for AI applications. It natively integrates with MCP clients using either OAuth-based session billing or a headless fallback utilizing the x402 protocol (USDC on Base or Solana). This unique combination of zero-config access and granular pay-as-you-go pricing makes it an essential tool for creating truly dynamic and autonomous agent workflows.

Glim Use Cases

  • Real-time Social Media Monitoring: Retrieve live tweets with advanced operators or pull Reddit posts and comments to track trending topics and sentiment.
  • Market and Product Research: Search Amazon listings for up-to-date pricing, reviews, and ASIN details, then pull full product details programmatically.
  • Technical Intelligence: Search GitHub repositories, discussions, code bases, and PR histories to feed contextual code data directly into your coding agents.
  • Web Intelligence and Scraping: Execute semantic web searches using Exa and pull clean, extracted page content (handling SPAs, SSR, and PDFs) with automatic truncation and full download fallbacks.
  • Video Analysis: Fetch YouTube subtitles and transcripts directly by video ID to enable video summarization and semantic analysis within Openclaw Skills integrations.

How Glim Works

  1. Connection Setup: The developer registers the Glim endpoint (https://glim.sh/mcp) inside their MCP client config or via Claude Code.
  2. Authentication & Billing: On first execution, the client initiates a quick browser OAuth sign-in to connect a pre-funded balance. Alternatively, a headless agent can pay per call dynamically via a local crypto wallet using the x402 protocol.
  3. Query Dispatch: The AI agent invokes one of the eleven unified glim_* tools, passing specific parameters such as search queries, subreddit filters, or video IDs.
  4. Execution & Truncation: Glim securely executes the request against target APIs, cleans the returned markup (extracting clean text, handling PDFs/SPAs), and truncates overly large responses while providing a full fallback URL to prevent agent token overflow.
  5. Response Delivery: The agent receives structured, clean Markdown/JSON data containing real-time insights, enabling context-aware decision-making.

Glim Setup

To connect Glim to your MCP client, add the server URL to your configuration file:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "glim": {
      "url": "https://glim.sh/mcp"
    }
  }
}

If you are using Claude Code, run the following CLI command to install Glim:

claude mcp add -s user -t http glim https://glim.sh/mcp

Headless Fallback Setup (Crypto Wallet)

If you are running agents in a headless environment without a browser, configure the x402 payment proxy:

npx x402-proxy setup
npx x402-proxy wallet info
npx x402-proxy mcp add glim https://glim.sh/mcp

Fund the generated wallet address with USDC on Base or Solana. The proxy handles HTTP 402 payment challenges autonomously.

Glim Data Schema & Taxonomy

Glim structures its tools into dual-purpose lookup operations. Search tools return lightweight, compact lists, which are optimized to trigger follow-up retrieve (*_get) actions for full data schema outputs. Below is the mapping of available tools and their data coverage:

Tool Name Action Scope Data Points / Format
glim_twitter_search Twitter / X Search Handles advanced operators (from:, since:). Returns matching tweets.
glim_twitter_get Twitter Fetch Fetches tweet content, full thread contexts, and user profile data.
glim_reddit_search Reddit Search Searches posts. Supports subreddit scoping (e.g., subreddit:python).
glim_reddit_get Reddit Fetch Returns post content, subreddits, comment trees, or user activity.
glim_web_search Semantic Web Search Uses Exa semantic indexing to fetch contextual URL listings.
glim_web_fetch Clean Page Scraping Extracts text/content from SPA shells, SSR, and PDFs. Inline truncation.
glim_github_search GitHub Code Search Searches repos, commits, code, issues, and conversations.
glim_github_get GitHub Repository Data Pulls file content, repository metadata, commit histories, and pull requests.
glim_amazon_search Amazon Product Search Returns Amazon listings, pricing, ratings, and ASIN arrays.
glim_amazon_get Amazon Product Fetch Delivers detailed product listings by unique ASIN.
glim_youtube_get Video Transcript Fetch Extracts YouTube subtitles and transcripts using standard video IDs.

All tools can be selectively enabled in the URL query string, for example, https://glim.sh/mcp?tools=glim_web_search,glim_web_fetch, allowing modular integration with other Openclaw Skills.

Glim Advanced Features

  • Tool Restriction Routing: Developers can scope sessions by appending a ?tools= query parameter to the connection endpoint, limiting the agent's exposed tools.
  • Web Content Compression & Truncation: When crawling massive pages, Glim extracts clean content, provides inline truncation, and outputs a download_full_url link, protecting LLM context windows.
  • On-Demand Micro-Payments: Native support for MPP (Tempo) and the x402 protocol (USDC on Base/Solana) allows server-to-server payments without credit cards.
  • Extensible REST API: Every MCP tool mapping corresponds to a public REST endpoint under https://glim.sh/api/v1/, accessible via standard HTTP clients utilizing the payment proxy.
