What is Google Drive?

The Google Drive skill provides a streamlined interface for AI agents to interact with the Google Drive API without the overhead of complex authentication. By utilizing a managed OAuth gateway, this skill allows developers to bypass local token management and focus on core functionality. Using this specific skill within your Openclaw Skills library enables secure, authorized access to cloud storage for any automated workflow.

This integration acts as a proxy to the native Google Drive API, automatically injecting necessary OAuth tokens into requests. This makes it an essential tool for developers building AI-driven document management systems, automated reporting tools, or any application that requires programmatically interacting with a user's cloud-hosted files and folders.

Google Drive Use Cases

  • Automating the creation and organization of Google Workspace documents like Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  • Developing AI agents that search and retrieve specific project files based on dynamic criteria.
  • Exporting Google Docs to PDF format for automated distribution or archiving.
  • Managing shared folder permissions and moving files between directories programmatically.
  • Building centralized file management dashboards within custom CLI tools or developer environments.

How Google Drive Works

  1. The user installs the required OpenClawCLI and configures their Maton API key as an environment variable.
  2. A connection request is sent to the Maton control plane to initiate a Google OAuth handshake.
  3. The user authorizes the application via a browser-based URL provided by the gateway.
  4. Once authorized, the AI agent sends requests to the Maton gateway URL instead of directly to Google.
  5. The gateway identifies the user, injects the managed OAuth token, and proxies the request to the Google Drive API.
  6. The resulting data is passed back to the agent in a clean, standard JSON format.

Google Drive Setup

Before using this skill, ensure OpenClawCLI is installed.

  1. Obtain your API key from your account settings at maton.ai.
  2. Set your environment variable:
export MATON_API_KEY="YOUR_API_KEY"
  1. Create an OAuth connection by running the following command:
curl -X POST https://ctrl.maton.ai/connections \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $MATON_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"app": "google-drive"}'
  1. Open the returned URL in your browser to complete the Google authentication process.

Google Drive Data Schema & Taxonomy

This skill utilizes the standard Google Drive API v3 schema for all file and folder interactions. Data is organized based on the following primary metadata fields:

Field Type Description
id String Unique identifier for the file or folder
name String The display name of the item
mimeType String The format of the file (e.g., application/pdf)
size String The size of the file in bytes
parents Array List of IDs for folders containing this item

Advanced querying is supported using the q parameter, allowing filters such as name contains 'report' or trashed = false.

Google Drive Advanced Features

  • Multi-account support allows for switching between different Google Drive connections using the Maton-Connection header.
  • Support for advanced search query syntax including complex boolean logic (and/or) and MIME type filtering.
  • Native export functionality for converting Google-specific formats into standard files like PDF or OpenDocument.
  • Automatic OAuth token lifecycle management, including silent refreshing and secure storage.
  • Granular control over response payloads using the fields parameter to minimize bandwidth and processing time within your Openclaw Skills.
