What is html2pptx-shape?

html2pptx-shape is a specialized tool designed to bridge the gap between web-based presentations and professional slide software. It goes beyond simple screenshots by parsing the DOM and CSS to map HTML elements directly to native PowerPoint shapes like rectangles, text boxes, and images. This ensures that the final output is not just a static document, but a fully editable PPTX file that remains faithful to the original web design.

The skill excels at handling complex CSS, including external stylesheets and CSS variables. By automatically embedding external CSS and calculating absolute positions, it reproduces layouts with high precision in a standard 16:9 widescreen format. This makes it an essential utility for developers and designers who want to leverage web technologies for content creation while requiring the versatility of Office Open XML formats for final delivery.

html2pptx-shape Use Cases

  • Converting HTML presentations generated by tools like html-ppt into editable PowerPoint decks.
  • Archiving web content into a professional presentation format for offline meetings.
  • Streamlining the workflow for developers who prefer styling slides with CSS but need PPTX for client handovers.
  • Transforming self-contained HTML files with embedded styles into native Office shapes.

How html2pptx-shape Works

  1. The system automatically fetches and embeds external CSS files into the HTML document's style tags.
  2. CSS variables are resolved across all selectors to ensure consistent styling.
  3. The DOM is parsed using BeautifulSoup4 to understand the document structure and element hierarchy.
  4. Layout calculations are performed to determine the absolute position and dimensions of each element.
  5. HTML elements are mapped to PPTX equivalents: div becomes a Shape, p/h1-h6 become TextBoxes, and img becomes a Picture.
  6. CSS properties like colors, borders, shadows, and opacity are applied to the corresponding PowerPoint shapes.
  7. The final PPTX file is generated using the python-pptx library, organized by slide sections.

html2pptx-shape Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill produces a standard PPTX file (Office Open XML) in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The internal file structure and mapping are organized as follows:

HTML Element PPTX Object Attributes Preserved
<div> Rectangle Background, Border, Shadow, Opacity
<p>, <h1>-<h6> TextBox Font-family, Size, Weight, Alignment, Color
<img> Picture Dimensions, Aspect Ratio, Source (Local/URL/Base64)
<ul>, <ol> TextBox Bullet points, Indentation
<svg> Freeform Paths (Simplified)

html2pptx-shape Advanced Features

  • Automatic CSS Embedding: Resolves relative paths for local CSS files and merges them into the document.
  • CSS Variable Support: Full resolution of :root and selector-specific variables during the conversion process.
  • Native Shape Mapping: Converts div elements into editable vector shapes rather than rasterized images.
  • Multi-Slide Processing: Automatically creates new slides based on section.slide tags in the HTML source.
  • Python API: Can be imported directly into other Python workflows for automated report generation using Openclaw Skills.
