What is iBus CLI?

iBus CLI is a technical utility designed to provide developers with instant access to real-time bus arrival data for the Chilean public transportation network. By utilizing this tool within the Openclaw Skills framework, users can query stop codes and receive detailed information about approaching buses, including license plates and estimated distances. It is built to be lightweight, fast, and adaptable for both personal use and complex automation systems, bridging the gap between official transit data and your terminal environment.

iBus CLI Use Cases

  • Real-time monitoring of specific bus stop arrival times during development.
  • Automating transport notifications based on live bus location data.
  • Extracting transit data for local dashboards or data analysis projects.
  • Filtering noisy stop data to focus only on specific bus routes.

How iBus CLI Works

  1. The user inputs a specific bus stop code into the ibus terminal command.
  2. The skill connects to the live API to retrieve the current status of all services at that stop.
  3. It processes real-time GPS telemetry to calculate arrival windows and distances.
  4. It renders the data in a developer-friendly format, either as a formatted table or structured JSON for further processing.

iBus CLI Setup

Ensure you have Python 3.9+ installed. You can install iBus CLI directly using the following command:

bash <(curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/iiroak/iBus.CL-API/main/install.sh)

For a manual installation from the source code, navigate to the repository and use:

pip install .

iBus CLI Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes transit data into stop-level and service-level objects. When using the --raw flag, the following schema is returned:

Property Description
paradero.codigo The unique identifier for the bus stop.
paradero.nombre The descriptive name of the stop location.
servicios An array containing details for every bus route passing the stop.
buses[].patente The unique license plate of the approaching vehicle.
buses[].distancia The real-time distance in meters from the vehicle to the stop.
buses[].tiempo_llegada Qualitative arrival estimate (e.g., Llegando, Mas de 26 min).

iBus CLI Advanced Features

  • JSON Output: Enable machine-readable responses using the --raw flag for easy integration with other Openclaw Skills.
  • Specific Filtering: Isolate data for a single bus line using the --servicio parameter to reduce processing overhead.
  • Flexible Runtime: Supports execution via python -m ibus to bypass global installation requirements in restricted environments.
  • Programmatic Error Handling: Returns standard exit codes (0 for success, 1 for error) to support robust shell scripting and automated pipelines.
