What is IDnow?

The IDnow skill for Openclaw Skills enables AI agents to interface directly with the IDnow identity verification-as-a-service platform. It allows businesses to automate the verification of customer identities online, significantly reducing fraud while ensuring adherence to strict regulatory requirements in sectors like banking, insurance, and telecommunications.

By leveraging Membrane as the underlying transport, this skill abstracts the complexities of authentication and credential management. This ensures that developers can focus on building sophisticated integration logic and identity workflows without worrying about the underlying auth plumbing or manual token refreshes.

IDnow Use Cases

  • Automating customer identity verification during onboarding for fintech or banking applications.
  • Managing and auditing identification documents and video identification logs for compliance.
  • Retrieving statistics on user identifications and system performance for business intelligence.
  • Configuring company-wide settings for transaction types, identification methods, and data retention policies.
  • Programmatically handling support tickets and system logs related to identity verification processes.

How IDnow Works

  1. The Membrane CLI is initialized and the user authenticates their specific agent type (e.g., openclaw) to establish a secure session.
  2. A connection to the IDnow domain is established using the connection ensure command, which handles the OAuth or API key handshake.
  3. The agent polls the connection status to ensure it transitions to a READY state, handling any required user inputs or redirections.
  4. Available actions are discovered using natural language intent searches to find the most efficient pre-built functions for a specific task.
  5. The agent executes selected actions or performs direct proxy requests to the IDnow API, with Membrane automatically injecting the required headers and managing credentials.

IDnow Setup

Install the CLI

To begin using Openclaw Skills with IDnow, install the Membrane CLI globally:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Authentication

Authenticate your agent. Replace <agentType> with openclaw:

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Establish Connection

Create a connection to the IDnow platform:

membrane connection ensure "https://www.idnow.io/" --json

IDnow Data Schema & Taxonomy

The IDnow skill organizes data into several logical domains to facilitate structured access and management:

Domain Description
Identification Core data regarding documents and user identification records.
Settings Configuration for company, products, transaction types, and risk management.
Statistics Analytics data for logins, identifications, and user activity.
Logs Detailed system, user, and document logs for auditing and debugging.
Resources External assets such as translations, scripts, and files used in the ID process.

IDnow Advanced Features

  • Natural Language Action Discovery: Use intent-based searching to find the best API actions without reading through manual documentation.
  • Automated Credential Refresh: Membrane handles the full lifecycle of authentication tokens server-side, eliminating local secret storage.
  • Direct API Proxying: Send raw requests to any IDnow endpoint while still benefiting from automated header injection and base URL normalization.
  • Machine-Readable Output: All commands support a --json flag, making it easy for AI agents to parse and act upon data programmatically.
  • State-Based Polling: Robust connection management that handles building states and client-action requirements gracefully.
