What is Kash Payment Skill?

The Kash skill is a specialized financial integration for Openclaw Skills designed to give AI agents the ability to fund their own operations. By linking a Kash wallet, agents can handle micro-payments for pay-per-use tools, external LLM providers, and data services without requiring manual user intervention for every cent spent.

This skill provides a secure framework for autonomous spending. It features a dual-layer security model that validates transaction destinations and enforces strict budget limits. By default, any expenditure under $5.00 is handled autonomously, while larger transactions trigger a mandatory user-confirmation request, ensuring a perfect balance between agent efficiency and human oversight.

Kash Payment Skill Use Cases

  • Funding pay-per-request web search or scraping tools during research workflows.
  • Automating the purchase of tokens for specialized external AI models or APIs.
  • Managing operational costs for agents performing data-intensive tasks across multiple providers.
  • Implementing strict financial guardrails and spending caps for experimental AI projects.
  • Paying for digital assets or cloud services directly through an agent's dedicated wallet.

How Kash Payment Skill Works

  1. The agent identifies a need to use a paid external service during its task execution.
  2. The agent calls the kash_spend tool, providing the required amount, description, and merchant details.
  3. The skill validates the request against local budget caps and server-side limits defined in the Kash dashboard.
  4. If the transaction exceeds the $5.00 threshold, the skill pauses and requests a YES confirmation from the user.
  5. Once authorized, the transaction is processed through the Kash API, and a success confirmation is returned to the agent.
  6. The agent proceeds with the paid service call only after receiving the successful spend confirmation.

Kash Payment Skill Setup

To integrate Kash into your Openclaw Skills environment, configure your ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json file as follows:

{
  "skills": {
    "entries": {
      "kash": {
        "enabled": true,
        "env": {
          "KASH_KEY": "your_kash_api_key",
          "KASH_AGENT_ID": "your_agent_id",
          "KASH_BUDGET": "50",
          "KASH_SPEND_CONFIRMATION_THRESHOLD": "5.00"
        }
      }
    }
  }
}

You must obtain your KASH_KEY and KASH_AGENT_ID from the kash.dev dashboard after registering your agent.

Kash Payment Skill Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Kash skill manages financial data and transaction metadata using the following structure:

Parameter Description Required
amount The transaction value in USD (e.g., 0.005). Yes
description A clear string explaining the purpose of the spend. Yes
merchant The name of the service or API being paid. No
confirmed Boolean flag indicating explicit user approval for high-value spends. No
KASH_BUDGET The maximum session cap enforced locally. Yes
KASH_API_URL Allowlisted endpoint validation (api.kash.dev). Yes

Kash Payment Skill Advanced Features

  • Local session budget enforcement that acts as a primary guardrail before reaching server-side limits.
  • Automated confirmation logic that prevents unauthorized high-value spending by requiring manual user input.
  • Real-time balance monitoring via the kash_balance tool to allow agents to plan multi-step paid operations.
  • Strict URL allowlisting to ensure API keys are never transmitted to unauthorized or untrusted domains.
  • Integration with the Kash dashboard for remote agent pausing and comprehensive spending analytics.
