What is Kindful?

Kindful is a specialized CRM and fundraising platform designed to help nonprofit organizations streamline donor management, track contributions, and automate communication efforts. By integrating this platform with Openclaw Skills, developers can empower AI agents to interact with a vast array of nonprofit data, from donor profiles to campaign metrics, without manually managing complex API authentication.

This skill provides a robust bridge to Kindful's ecosystem, enabling automated workflows for donor engagement and operational efficiency. By leveraging Openclaw Skills alongside the Membrane framework, users benefit from secure credential management and pre-built actions that simplify the technical overhead of nonprofit data management.

Kindful Use Cases

  • Automating donor follow-up communications and personalized thank-you messages.
  • Synchronizing real-time donation records and transaction history with external analytics tools.
  • Managing nonprofit event logistics, including ticket sales, bidder packages, and sponsor tracking.
  • Updating donor contact information, communication preferences, and household relationships.
  • Streamlining membership management and recurring donation workflows for consistent fundraising.

How Kindful Works

  1. The user installs the Membrane CLI to enable communication between the AI environment and the Kindful platform.
  2. Authentication is initiated via a secure tenant login, linking the environment to Openclaw Skills.
  3. A connection is established by providing the Kindful URL, which Membrane uses to handle OAuth or API key negotiation.
  4. The AI agent utilizes natural language intent to search for specific available actions, such as retrieving donor lists or creating activities.
  5. Commands are executed through the CLI, which handles pagination, error mapping, and credential refreshing automatically.

Kindful Setup

Install the required CLI tool to begin:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Log in to your account and specify your agent type:

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Establish a connection to the Kindful service:

membrane connection ensure "https://kindful.com/" --json

If the connection status is not immediately ready, poll the status until it is confirmed:

npx @membranehq/cli connection get <id> --wait --json

Kindful Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Kindful skill organizes data into structured entities that are easily consumable by Openclaw Skills. The following table highlights the primary data objects available:

Object Type Description
Contacts Detailed donor profiles including custom fields, addresses, and affiliations.
Transactions Financial records for donations, pledges, and in-kind gifts.
Campaigns Data related to specific fundraising initiatives and goals.
Activities Logged interactions such as emails, notes, and tasks.
Memberships Details on membership packages, seats, and transaction history.
Auctions Tracking for items, bidders, packages, and sponsors.

All data is exchanged as escaped JSON, ensuring compatibility with modern AI agent protocols.

Kindful Advanced Features

  • Natural language action discovery to identify the most efficient way to query Kindful data.
  • Automatic credential refresh to ensure long-running automations remain connected without manual intervention.
  • Transparent API proxying for advanced users who need to access specific endpoints not covered by standard actions.
  • Support for complex nonprofit-specific entities like Tributes, Pledges, and Designation funds.
  • Multi-agent support via specialized client naming for different automation harnesses.
