What is Kombo?

The Kombo skill is a powerful integration layer designed for developers using Openclaw Skills to connect with a multitude of SaaS platforms through a single, unified API. By leveraging the Membrane framework, this skill abstracts the complexities of individual API architectures, providing a consistent interface for managing workspace data and meeting transcriptions.

At its core, the skill eliminates the overhead of managing multiple authentication flows. It utilizes the Membrane CLI to handle credential refreshes and secure connectivity, allowing AI agents to focus on executing logic and automating workflows rather than navigating technical debt or manual auth plumbing.

Kombo Use Cases

  • Automating the retrieval and processing of meeting transcriptions from supported SaaS platforms.
  • Managing workspace records and data synchronization across disparate software tools.
  • Building multi-service integrations without writing custom authentication logic for every provider.
  • Executing natural language searches for specific business actions within a connected SaaS environment.

How Kombo Works

  1. Installation and Login: The user installs the Membrane CLI and authenticates their agent (e.g., Openclaw) to establish a secure tenant environment.
  2. Connection Provisioning: A connection is ensured by providing the target service URL, where Membrane handles the OAuth or API key handshake.
  3. State Verification: The agent polls the connection state, ensuring it moves from BUILDING to READY, or guiding the user through required client actions.
  4. Action Discovery: The agent uses natural language intent strings to search for pre-built actions available for that specific connection.
  5. Execution or Proxying: The agent runs optimized pre-built actions or, for advanced needs, sends authenticated proxy requests directly to the Kombo API.

Kombo Setup

First, install the Membrane CLI globally:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Authenticate your specific agent type (use openclaw for Openclaw Skills):

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Ensure a connection to the Kombo service:

membrane connection ensure "https://www.kombo.dev/" --json

Kombo Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes interaction data based on the following taxonomy:

Component Description
Connection ID Unique identifier for the authenticated SaaS instance.
Action ID Specific programmatic task (e.g., list-meetings, get-transcript).
Input Schema JSON-based parameters required by the specific Kombo action.
Output Schema Structured response data returned from the integrated service.
Proxy Path Direct endpoint routing for raw API interaction via Membrane.

Kombo Advanced Features

  • Natural Language Intent Discovery: Find functional tools by describing what you want to do (e.g., 'get recent meeting notes') instead of looking up endpoint documentation.
  • Transparent Credential Management: Automatic server-side token refresh with no local secret storage required.
  • Universal Request Proxying: Full HTTP method support (GET, POST, etc.) with automatic base URL and auth header injection.
  • Multi-Agent Optimization: Tailored tooling adjustments based on the agent type specified during login.
