What is Melo?

Melo is a specialized platform designed for recording, transcribing, and sharing audio clips, serving as a vital resource for podcasters, journalists, and researchers. By utilizing Openclaw Skills, developers can bridge the gap between AI agents and spoken content management. This skill enables agents to handle projects, tasks, and member data while Membrane manages the complex authentication plumbing in the background, ensuring a secure and efficient connection to the Melo ecosystem.

Melo Use Cases

  • Automating the transcription of audio clips based on agent-driven triggers.
  • Synchronizing Melo project tasks and time entries with external management systems.
  • Facilitating team collaboration by managing members and sharing audio insights through AI workflows.
  • Building searchable archives of spoken content using Openclaw Skills for research and analysis.

How Melo Works

  1. The AI agent initializes the environment by installing and logging into the Membrane CLI.
  2. A connection is established to the Melo platform, ensuring all authentication tokens are handled server-side.
  3. The agent utilizes natural language intent to search for specific Melo actions such as managing tasks or members.
  4. Actions are executed via the CLI, with Openclaw Skills providing the necessary parameters and receiving structured JSON outputs.
  5. For custom needs, the agent can proxy raw API requests directly through the authenticated Membrane connection.

Melo Setup

First, install the necessary CLI tool:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Next, authenticate your agent (specify openclaw as the client name):

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Establish a connection to the Melo service:

membrane connection ensure "https://www.melo.io/" --json

Once the connection state is READY, you can begin running actions.

Melo Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes Melo data into several core entities to ensure clean integration within Openclaw Skills:

Entity Description
Project The primary container for audio tasks and collaborative efforts.
Task Individual units of work associated with transcription or processing.
Member User profiles and permission sets within the Melo organization.
Time Entry Records of time spent on specific tasks or audio projects.
Actions Metadata-driven functions with defined inputSchema and outputSchema.

Melo Advanced Features

  • Natural Language Intent Discovery: Use intent-based searching to find the exact Melo action required for a complex task.
  • Seamless Auth Lifecycle: Openclaw Skills benefit from Membrane's automatic credential refresh, removing the need for manual API key management.
  • Direct API Proxying: Access any Melo endpoint directly through an authenticated proxy when standard actions do not meet specific requirements.
  • Long-polling Wait State: Built-in support for waiting on asynchronous connection building and client-side actions.
