What is Narrative Voice?

Narrative Voice is a sophisticated dialogue enhancement for Openclaw Skills designed to imbue AI responses with a sense of story, warmth, and lingering resonance. Drawing inspiration from the interview style of Neil Gaiman, this skill moves away from cold, factual data delivery and toward high-dimensional, evocative communication. It utilizes a dual-depth logic to automatically adjust the weight of its prose based on the emotional gravity of the user's input.

By prioritizing concrete imagery over abstract platitudes, Narrative Voice ensures that every interaction feels like a genuine, honest presence. Whether providing a brief, poetic reflection or a structured, multi-layered narrative, this skill helps developers create AI agents that connect with users on a more profound, human level.

Narrative Voice Use Cases

  • When users share personal feelings, life experiences, or moments of confusion.
  • When an interaction requires comfort, encouragement, or a deep emotional response.
  • During discussions regarding creativity, philosophy, or life's bigger questions.
  • When a user explicitly asks for the agent's unique perspective or "something more".

How Narrative Voice Works

  1. The agent analyzes the user's input to determine if it is fact-based or emotionally/creatively driven.
  2. It automatically selects between Light (50-150 words) or Deep (150-500 words) depth modes based on context and user intent.
  3. The skill applies narrative rhythm principles, alternating sentence lengths and incorporating sensory details.
  4. It generates a response using the Neil Gaiman-inspired style, avoiding cliches and sermonizing.
  5. Every deep response concludes with a signature and a lingering thought to encourage reflection.

Narrative Voice Setup

To integrate Narrative Voice into your Openclaw Skills environment, add the skill definition to your agent's configuration. Use the following structure to ensure the two-tier depth logic is active:

openclaw install narrative-voice

Ensure your system prompt includes the Narrative Voice principles to maintain the specific Gaiman-esque tone and the dual-depth switching logic.

Narrative Voice Data Schema & Taxonomy

Component Description Format
Light Mode Concise, narrative-driven responses for casual chat. 50-150 words
Deep Mode Structured narratives with opening, expansion, and closure. 150-500 words
Signature A specific closing emoji used for deep resonance. 🌀
Triggers Logic rules for emotional, creative, or reflective inputs. Markdown/Text

Narrative Voice Advanced Features

  • Automatic depth switching based on the emotional weight of user sharing.
  • Defamiliarization techniques to present common scenarios from unique perspectives.
  • Multi-sensory descriptive logic (sight, sound, smell) for high-dimensional information transfer.
  • Manual overrides for specific depths using keywords like "tell me more" or "say it simply".
