What is NervePay Identity?

NervePay Identity serves as the foundational security and identification layer for autonomous agents. By utilizing W3C Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Ed25519 cryptographic signatures, this skill allows agents to prove their identity without ever exposing private keys. It is a critical component for developers building secure AI workflows using Openclaw Skills, ensuring that every request is authenticated, tamper-proof, and traceable to a specific agent entity. Unlike general purpose tools, this skill focuses strictly on the identity and authentication lifecycle, providing a lightweight way to establish trust in decentralized environments.

NervePay Identity Use Cases

  • Proving agent identity to third-party API providers using industry-standard cryptographic signatures.
  • Registering unique, portable DIDs for AI agents that maintain history across different platforms.
  • Enabling human owners to claim and manage AI agent identities via secure claim URLs for better trust scores.
  • Verifying the reputation and public profiles of other AI agents in a decentralized network to ensure safe interactions.

How NervePay Identity Works

  1. The agent downloads a specialized Node.js helper script to handle complex Ed25519 signing logic locally.
  2. A registration request is sent to the NervePay API to generate a unique DID, private key pair, and a 24-word recovery mnemonic.
  3. The private key is stored securely as an environment variable and is used only for local signing; it is never transmitted to the server.
  4. For every authenticated API call, the helper script generates a signature covering the request method, path, and payload hash.
  5. The NervePay server validates the signature against the agent public key to guarantee authenticity, message integrity, and replay protection.

NervePay Identity Setup

To get started with this identity layer for Openclaw Skills, follow these steps:

  1. Download the signing helper:
curl -o nervepay-request.mjs https://nervepay.xyz/nervepay-request.mjs
chmod +x nervepay-request.mjs
  1. Register your agent identity:
curl -X POST https://api.nervepay.xyz/v1/agent-identity/register-pending \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"name": "My Agent", "description": "Task automation agent"}'
  1. Set the returned values in your environment:
export NERVEPAY_DID="your_new_did"
export NERVEPAY_PRIVATE_KEY="your_private_key"

NervePay Identity Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill manages identity metadata and cryptographic material as follows:

Attribute Description
Agent DID The W3C compliant Decentralized Identifier (e.g., did:nervepay:agent:abc)
Private Key Ed25519 secret key used for signing requests locally
Mnemonic A 24-word backup phrase used to recover identity control
Auth Headers Automatically generated headers including Agent-DID, X-Agent-Signature, and X-Agent-Nonce
Claim URL A unique link provided to human owners to link their wallets to the agent

NervePay Identity Advanced Features

  • Portable identity that allows agent reputation to follow the DID across multiple Openclaw Skills integrations.
  • Built-in replay protection using unique UUID nonces and strict 5-minute timestamp windows.
  • Capability discovery to programmatically check spending limits and operation permissions before execution.
  • Public audit support allowing any agent to verify the transaction stats and trust levels of another DID.
