What is Networkmanager?

Networkmanager is a robust Openclaw Skills extension designed for developers and sysadmins who need a reliable way to track network states without external dependencies. It functions as a comprehensive command-line suite for recording scans, monitoring latency, and documenting network fixes, ensuring that every configuration change or troubleshooting step is captured for future audits.

Built with a local-first philosophy, this skill stores all data in plain-text logs on your machine. It offers over 20 subcommands that cover the entire network management lifecycle, from initial benchmarking to disaster recovery logging, making it an essential tool for maintaining high-performance infrastructure within the Openclaw Skills framework.

Networkmanager Use Cases

  • Recording subnet scan results and active host counts for inventory management.
  • Building a time-series log of network performance metrics like latency and throughput.
  • Tracking infrastructure incidents and DNS resolution failures through persistent alerts.
  • Documenting backup and restoration procedures to maintain a clear audit trail.
  • Comparing network configurations across different environments or deployment stages.

How Networkmanager Works

  1. The user executes a specific network-config subcommand via the CLI to either view or record data.
  2. If arguments are provided, the skill generates a pipe-delimited entry formatted as YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM|value.
  3. The data is appended to the specific log file associated with that command (e.g., monitor.log).
  4. Simultaneously, the entry is mirrored to a unified history.log file to maintain a master audit trail.
  5. Users can then query this data using built-in search, stats, or export commands for analysis.

Networkmanager Setup

To integrate this tool into your Openclaw Skills environment, ensure you have Bash 4.0+ and standard Unix utilities available. No root privileges are required.

# The tool automatically creates its data directory on first run
# View available commands

# Verify installation and data directory status

Networkmanager Data Schema & Taxonomy

All data is persisted in ~/.local/share/network-config/ using a simple, grep-friendly structure:

File Type Description Format
Command Logs Individual logs like scan.log or fix.log Timestamp|Data
Audit Log history.log contains every action taken Timestamp|Data
Exports export.json, export.csv, export.txt Per format spec

Each entry uses a standard timestamp: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM.

Networkmanager Advanced Features

  • Full-text search capabilities across all local log files using optimized grep-based logic.
  • Multi-format data portability supporting JSON and CSV for integration with external analytics tools.
  • Zero-dependency architecture ensuring the skill runs in air-gapped or restricted environments.
  • Health and disk usage monitoring to manage the local data footprint.
  • Unified history tracking providing a single source of truth for all network management operations.
