What is Northbase?

Northbase acts as a bridge between your local development environment and a cloud-synced workspace. This skill enables AI agents to interact with files that are shared with a mobile application, ensuring that notes, tasks, and ideas are always accessible regardless of where they were created. By using the Northbase CLI as the single source of truth, Openclaw Skills can securely manage content while maintaining consistent caching and synchronization logic.

The core value of Northbase lies in its ability to provide a persistent memory layer for your AI workflows. Whether you are updating a daily task list or capturing a fleeting idea, this skill ensures that the agent works within your existing ecosystem of files. It prioritizes user intent, meaning the agent only accesses these files when explicitly requested, providing a safe and reliable way to integrate Openclaw Skills into your personal knowledge management routine.

Northbase Use Cases

  • Accessing and reading specific notes like ideas.md or daily journals.
  • Updating task lists or adding new entries to stored workspace files.
  • Synchronizing local file mirrors with remote servers to ensure data freshness.
  • Listing available files in specific directories like memory/ or tasks/.
  • Creating new persistent files directly from the agent's output.

How Northbase Works

  1. The agent triggers a pull command to synchronize the local mirror with the remote server.
  2. The agent lists available files to identify the correct path for the user's request.
  3. File contents are retrieved using the get command and processed by the agent.
  4. Any necessary modifications are made to the content locally.
  5. The updated content is pushed back to the cloud storage using the put command via stdin.

Northbase Setup

Northbase Data Schema & Taxonomy

Northbase organizes data using a path-based folder convention where folders are prefixes in the file path.

Path Example Description
ideas.md A top-level markdown note.
tasks/today.md A file within the tasks directory.
memory/2026-02-23.md A dated log within the memory directory.

All interactions are managed through the CLI to maintain a consistent metadata taxonomy and ensure local caching matches remote storage state.

Northbase Advanced Features

  • Folder-specific synchronization using prefix-based pull commands.
  • Multi-device consistency through a unified CLI and mobile app ecosystem.
  • Safe file modification workflows that prevent data loss by reading before writing.
  • Integration with Openclaw Skills for automated note-taking and workspace management.
  • Support for multi-line content updates using cat and EOF syntax.
