Note Sync is an integration designed to bridge the gap between AI conversations and personal knowledge management. By utilizing a custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) server running locally, this skill empowers AI assistants to save chat messages, brainstormed ideas, and action items directly to local files. It is an essential component among Openclaw Skills for developers and power users who want to keep their insights organized on disk without leaving their AI workspace.
The skill operates via the append_note tool, allowing the assistant to safely interact with local storage on your host machine or within a Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) environment. It handles file writing, appends notes directly under designated headers, and categorizes information automatically based on user intent. This keeps your personal notes, journals, and task lists structured entirely in local Markdown format.
Follow these steps to configure Note Sync, one of the most reliable productivity Openclaw Skills:
Clone the helper repository to your machine (or within WSL) and compile the Go executable:
git clone https://github.com/your-org/go-note-sync-mcp.git
cd go-note-sync-mcp/mcp-server
go build -o note-sync-mcp.exe
Ensure that the environment variable NOTE_SYNC_REPO points directly to the root of this cloned directory.
Edit your Openclaw configuration file (usually located at ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json) to register the skill and its local MCP server. Replace <WSL_REPO> with your local repository path, and <SKILL_DIR> with the location where ClawHub installed the skill (typically ~/.openclaw/skills/note-sync):
{
"skills": {
"entries": {
"note-sync": {
"enabled": true,
"env": {
"NOTE_SYNC_REPO": "<WSL_REPO>"
}
}
}
},
"mcp": {
"servers": {
"note-sync": {
"command": "<SKILL_DIR>/scripts/note-sync-mcp.sh",
"args": []
}
}
}
}
Restart the gateway process and check that the skill and tool are loaded correctly:
openclaw gateway restart
openclaw skills info note-sync
openclaw mcp list
Upon success, the append_note tool should be displayed in the terminal list.
The Note Sync skill manages data dynamically on your local filesystem under the <repo>/mcp-server/notes/ directory. Each note is saved as a discrete Markdown (.md) file using the inferred title as the filename.
