What is Novel Workshop?

The Novel Workshop is a professional-grade creative agent designed to handle the entire lifecycle of fiction writing. By utilizing a diverse array of large language models, it eliminates the creative fatigue of manual drafting and the bias of single-model revision. This Openclaw Skills tool orchestrates specialized AI roles—Logic, Literature, and Critique—to ensure that every generated piece is structurally sound and stylistically refined.

The skill provides a seamless bridge between local execution and cloud-based collaboration. It doesn't just generate text; it manages a complex workflow that includes parallel processing of reviews and final archival into Feishu (Lark) documents, making it an essential tool for digital-first writers and content teams.

Novel Workshop Use Cases

  • Automating the creation of short stories or chapters from simple thematic prompts.
  • Implementing a rigorous 'blind review' process where different AI models critique and improve a draft.
  • Streamlining creative content pipelines by archiving full version histories (drafts, reviews, and final edits) automatically.
  • Managing collaborative writing projects within Feishu through real-time progress notifications in group chats.

How Novel Workshop Works

  1. The user provides a raw prompt and a document title through the command line to trigger the Openclaw Skills workflow.
  2. The drafting engine (Xiaomi Mimo) generates the initial manuscript based on the raw input.
  3. The system initiates a three-way parallel review involving Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude to analyze logic, literary merit, and provide a sharp critique.
  4. A final revision model (Gemini) synthesizes the draft and all three reviews to produce a polished final version.
  5. The complete output is saved locally in Markdown and uploaded to a structured Feishu document, while progress is pushed to a specified chat group.

Novel Workshop Setup

To use this skill within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, ensure your configuration is ready:

  1. Add your OpenRouter API Key and Feishu app credentials (appId/appSecret) to openclaw.json.
  2. Register the required models in the models.registered section: xiaomi/mimo-v2-flash, google/gemini-2.5-pro, and anthropic/claude-opus-4.6.
  3. Install the requests Python library if not already present.
  4. Execute the workshop using the following command:
python3 skills/novel-workshop/workflow.py "Your Raw Prompt" "Document Title"

Novel Workshop Data Schema & Taxonomy

The workshop organizes data across local and cloud environments to ensure persistence and accessibility:

Data Type Storage Location Content Structure
Local MD ~/.openclaw/workspace/novels/ A complete Markdown file containing the raw draft, all reviews, and the final manuscript.
Feishu Doc Cloud Folder (via Token) A structured document with three parts: Initial Draft, Triple-Review Analysis, and the Final Polished Text.
Metadata __SUMMARY__ JSON Final output includes a JSON object with document links and quality scores for easy programmatic access.

Novel Workshop Advanced Features

  • Parallel multi-model orchestration preventing 'self-correction bias' by using different models for drafting and revising.
  • Automated Feishu permission management using the owner's Open ID for instant document access.
  • Real-time progress tracking with a 5-step visual status bar pushed directly to group chat channels.
  • Support for environment variable overrides for custom folder tokens and chat destinations.
  • Strict prompt preservation ensuring the original creative intent is passed to models without external modification.
