What is Stellar CLI?

The Stellar CLI skill provides a robust gateway for developers and AI agents to interact directly with the Stellar blockchain. By leveraging the official Stellar CLI, this skill enables seamless management of cryptographic keys, network configurations, and Soroban smart contracts. It is an essential component for anyone building decentralized applications or automating financial workflows within the Openclaw Skills framework.

Whether you are operating on the public mainnet or testing on the testnet, this skill handles the complexities of transaction building and signing. It simplifies the process of managing stroops—the smallest unit of XLM—and ensures that your AI coding agent has the tools necessary to perform on-chain operations with precision and security.

Stellar CLI Use Cases

  • Automated distribution of XLM rewards or payments using Openclaw Skills.
  • Rapid prototyping and testing of Soroban smart contracts on the testnet.
  • Managing multiple blockchain identities and wallet addresses for development teams.
  • Monitoring network health and configuring custom RPC endpoints for private Stellar networks.

How Stellar CLI Works

  1. The skill initializes by connecting to a specified network, such as testnet, and verifying its health status.
  2. It automatically generates or imports a default wallet identity and funds it via Friendbot if using the testnet.
  3. Users can issue commands to manage keys, such as generating new public/private key pairs or listing existing identities.
  4. For financial operations, the skill constructs transactions (TX) in XDR format, specifying source, destination, and amount in stroops.
  5. Transactions are signed using the managed keys and broadcasted to the Stellar network for ledger inclusion.

Stellar CLI Setup

To integrate this capability into your environment, install the Stellar CLI through one of the following methods:

macOS/Linux (Homebrew):

brew install stellar-cli

Direct Script:

curl -sSL https://github.com/stellar/stellar-cli/raw/main/install.sh | sh

Windows (Winget):

winget install stellar-cli

After installation, the Openclaw Skills agent will automatically run the health check and wallet funding scripts to prepare the environment.

Stellar CLI Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes blockchain metadata and identities according to the standard Stellar CLI configuration. Below is the primary data structure used:

Component Description Data Type
Identities Named wallet profiles containing public keys and secrets Local Configuration
Networks RPC URLs and network passphrases (testnet, mainnet, etc.) Registry
Transactions XDR-encoded transaction envelopes for building and signing File-based (.xdr)
Fees Default and inclusion fees measured in stroops Integer (Stroops)

Stellar CLI Advanced Features

  • Manual transaction pipeline support including build-only, sign, and send stages for complex multisig workflows.
  • Direct integration with Soroban smart contract development tools.
  • Support for custom asset codes and issuers beyond native XLM.
  • Automated testnet funding (Friendbot) for streamlined developer onboarding within Openclaw Skills.
