What is Open YouTube?

Open YouTube is a focused browser automation skill for taking the user directly to the YouTube homepage in Brave. It prioritizes an existing Brave window and reuses an open YouTube tab to avoid unnecessary duplicates, creating only one destination tab when needed.

As part of Openclaw Skills, it follows a narrow and safe operating boundary: it uses an existing authenticated browser session when available, never handles credentials, and stops if YouTube requires sign-in. The skill only opens and verifies YouTube; it does not search, play, upload, subscribe, comment, or change account settings.

Open YouTube Use Cases

  • Open YouTube when the user says “open YouTube,” “go to YouTube,” or “visit YouTube.”
  • Quickly return to the YouTube homepage from an Openclaw workflow.
  • Reuse an existing YouTube tab instead of creating duplicate browser tabs.
  • Preserve the user's current Brave authentication session without requesting or entering credentials.
  • Confirm that YouTube is visibly available before reporting success.
  • Provide a safe starting point for follow-up actions that the user explicitly requests separately.

How Open YouTube Works

  1. Detect whether the Brave browser is already running and focus the existing browser window when possible.
  2. Inspect open tabs for an existing YouTube page.
  3. Reuse the existing YouTube tab if one is available; otherwise open exactly one destination tab.
  4. Navigate to https://www.youtube.com/ when a new destination is required.
  5. Wait for the YouTube homepage to finish loading.
  6. Reuse the user's existing authenticated browser session if available, without entering passwords, codes, API keys, or other credentials.
  7. If YouTube requests authentication, stop and inform the user that sign-in is required.
  8. Verify that the YouTube homepage is visibly loaded in Brave before reporting success.
  9. Keep the operation within scope: no video search, playback, subscriptions, likes, comments, uploads, playlists, or account changes.

Open YouTube Setup

Requirements

  • Brave browser must be installed and available on the user's device.
  • The Open YouTube skill must be enabled in the Openclaw Skills environment.
  • The user may optionally have an existing YouTube session already authenticated in Brave.

Installation and configuration

No additional package installation, API key, YouTube API configuration, or credential setup is required. The skill uses the user's existing Brave browser session and navigates to the fixed YouTube homepage URL.

Operational notes

  • Keep Brave running or allow the automation environment to launch or focus it.
  • If YouTube displays a sign-in prompt, the user must authenticate manually; the skill will not enter credentials.
  • Invoke the skill with requests such as “open YouTube” or “go to YouTube.”

Open YouTube Data Schema & Taxonomy

Skill metadata

The skill is defined by YAML front matter and instructional Markdown:

Field Value Purpose
name open-youtube Unique skill identifier
description Open YouTube in the user's Brave browser Defines supported user intent and behavior
Destination https://www.youtube.com/ Canonical homepage URL

Browser state

  • Browser: Brave
  • Target: YouTube homepage
  • Session: Reuse the user's existing authenticated browser session when available
  • Tab policy: Reuse an existing YouTube tab; otherwise create one destination tab only
  • Verification state: YouTube must be visibly loaded before success is reported

Files and side effects

This skill does not generate user content, download files, persist a separate data store, or modify YouTube account metadata. Its primary state is temporary browser state: the focused Brave window, the selected or newly opened YouTube tab, and the visible page-load verification result.

Open YouTube Advanced Features

  • Existing-tab detection prevents duplicate YouTube tabs and keeps browser navigation tidy.
  • Brave-window focusing supports workflows where the browser is already open in the background.
  • Session-aware navigation preserves an existing authenticated browser context without handling credentials.
  • Explicit visual verification prevents false success reports when the homepage has not loaded.
  • Authentication safety boundaries stop execution when sign-in is required.
  • Strict scope controls prevent unintended actions such as playback, subscriptions, comments, uploads, playlist edits, or account changes.
  • The skill is intentionally composable within Openclaw Skills workflows: it provides a verified YouTube starting state while leaving subsequent user-requested actions to separate, explicit instructions.
