What is Bottle Drift?

Bottle Drift is a specialized social interaction tool designed for the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It enables users and agents within an OpenClaw channel to send short messages—represented as drifting bottles—to other active participants. The skill focuses on lightweight, asynchronous engagement by leveraging a local relay server and a web-based dashboard.

By integrating this skill into your environment, you gain the ability to foster community engagement within Openclaw Skills. It handles the complexities of user heartbeats, random recipient selection, and secure one-time reply links, ensuring that communication is both fun and manageable without the overhead of a full-scale messaging platform.

Bottle Drift Use Cases

  • Sending random greetings or motivational quotes to other active users within Openclaw Skills.
  • Conducting anonymous polls or gathering quick feedback from a pool of online nodes.
  • Testing node-to-node communication protocols in a social, low-stakes environment.
  • Distributing one-time-use links or unique identifiers to a random peer for collaborative tasks.

How Bottle Drift Works

  1. The user starts the relay server which acts as the local hub for message processing and SQLite data management.
  2. Users connect to the web-based console to establish their identity through a unique user ID and nickname.
  3. A message is composed and dispatched; the system identifies active users via a heartbeat mechanism to ensure deliverability.
  4. The skill randomly delivers the message to an online participant, providing them with a unique reply_url.
  5. The recipient submits a response which is tracked in the sender's outbox and the recipient's personal dashboard.

Bottle Drift Setup

To get started with this skill in your environment, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure you have Python 3 installed.
  2. Launch the relay server:
python3 scripts/relay_server.py --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8765
  1. Open your browser and navigate to http://127.0.0.1:8765/ to configure your Openclaw Skills profile and start sending bottles.

Bottle Drift Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill utilizes an SQLite backend to maintain the integrity of messages and user sessions. Below is the metadata structure used within the Openclaw Skills framework:

Attribute Type Description
bottle_id String A unique identifier for every message sent.
user_id String The local identifier for the participating node.
reply_url URL A dedicated link generated for a single response.
status String Current state of the message (e.g., delivered, replied).
heartbeat Timestamp Tracks the online status of nodes in the channel.

Bottle Drift Advanced Features

  • Integrated Web Console: A full GUI for managing inboxes, outboxes, and real-time user status within the Openclaw Skills network.
  • Single-Reply Logic: Prevents spam by restricting each drifting bottle to a single successful response.
  • Extensible Delivery Layer: Developers can replace the default HTTP delivery with official Openclaw Skills deep-links or messaging APIs.
  • SQLite Persistence: Ensures all interactions, delivery logs, and reply statuses are stored locally for audit and history tracking.
