What is Bottle Drift?

Bottle Drift is a sophisticated communication skill designed specifically for Openclaw Skills users. It facilitates a virtual message-in-a-bottle mechanic where users can broadcast short messages to other active participants within the Openclaw network. Unlike traditional broadcast tools, it focuses on engagement by providing a dedicated web-based control panel for managing outgoing drifts and incoming replies in real-time.

The skill emphasizes controlled interaction by targeting only online users who have opted into the drift channel. It integrates a local storage-first approach, using SQLite and a built-in web server to manage identities and message states, ensuring that every interaction is logged and every response is traceable back to the original sender through unique reply URLs.

Bottle Drift Use Cases

  • Sending anonymous or pseudonymous greetings to active Openclaw users.
  • Creating interactive engagement loops within AI agent communities.
  • Testing peer-to-peer message relay logic in a controlled environment.
  • Facilitating quick feedback gathering via unique reply links sent through external channels.

How Bottle Drift Works

  1. The user initiates the relay server which hosts the local management console.
  2. Users register their identity (ID and nickname) within the web interface to join the active pool.
  3. A message is composed and dispatched through the system, which identifies online recipients.
  4. The system generates a unique bottle ID and an exclusive reply URL for each dispatched message.
  5. Recipients receive the message and can reply directly through their console or the provided URL.
  6. The sender monitors their outbox in real-time to view delivery status and read incoming replies.

Bottle Drift Setup

To deploy this skill within your Openclaw environment, ensure you have python3 installed and follow these steps:

# Navigate to the skill directory
cd bottle-drift

# Start the relay server
python3 scripts/relay_server.py --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8765

# Access the management console in your browser
# URL: http://127.0.0.1:8765/n```
