What is OpenInsider?

The OpenInsider skill allows developers and traders to programmatically access insider trading data directly from SEC Form 4 filings. By integrating this into Openclaw Skills, users can automate the surveillance of corporate officers, directors, and major shareholders to identify high-conviction buying or selling patterns. This tool simplifies the process of gathering market intelligence by scraping and parsing complex data tables into a structured format usable for financial analysis.

OpenInsider Use Cases

  • Monitoring large share purchases by CEOs or CFOs as bullish market indicators.
  • Automating research for equity analysis by tracking Form 4 filings for specific tickers.
  • Building custom alert systems that trigger when insiders liquidate significant portions of their holdings.
  • Collecting historical insider sentiment data to improve quantitative trading models within Openclaw Skills.

How OpenInsider Works

  1. The user provides a stock ticker symbol and an optional limit for the number of records to retrieve.
  2. The Openclaw Skills environment executes a Python script that targets the OpenInsider database.
  3. The script scrapes the relevant SEC Form 4 data using the lxml and requests libraries.
  4. Data is processed into a structured format, providing details such as trade date, insider title, and transaction value.
  5. The final output is presented to the user or agent for further decision-making or reporting.

OpenInsider Setup

To use this skill, you must have Python 3 installed. Follow these steps to configure the environment:

pip3 install pandas requests lxml

Once dependencies are installed, you can fetch trades using the script path:

skills/openinsider/scripts/fetch_trades.py TICKER --limit 10

OpenInsider Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill returns structured data containing the following fields:
