What is Plivo?

The Plivo skill for Openclaw Skills empowers AI agents to interact directly with the Plivo cloud communications platform. By leveraging the Membrane framework, this skill abstracts the complexities of API authentication and credential management, allowing developers to focus on building robust communication logic.

Whether you are building automated call centers, SMS marketing tools, or notification systems, this integration provides a secure and scalable way to handle programmable voice and messaging. It ensures that your AI agents can perform high-level operations like initiating calls or retrieving message records without manual secret handling.

Plivo Use Cases

  • Automating outbound SMS and MMS marketing campaigns.
  • Building AI-driven voice assistants that can initiate and manage calls.
  • Monitoring and retrieving message detail records (MDR) for data analysis.
  • Managing rental phone numbers and carrier configurations via AI commands.
  • Orchestrating conference calls and managing live call recordings.

How Plivo Works

  1. The Membrane CLI is initialized to bridge the AI agent with the Plivo API.
  2. User authentication is handled securely via a browser-based OAuth flow, eliminating the need to store raw API keys.
  3. The AI agent searches for specific actions (e.g., send-sms) using natural language intent via the Openclaw Skills interface.
  4. If a specific endpoint isn't pre-built, the system dynamically generates the necessary action schema.
  5. The agent executes the action with JSON parameters, and Membrane returns the structured output from Plivo's servers.

Plivo Setup

First, install the Membrane CLI to enable Openclaw Skills integration:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Authenticate your agent environment:

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Connect your Plivo account:

membrane connect --connectorKey plivo

Plivo Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes Plivo entities into a structured hierarchy for easy AI consumption:

Entity Description
Messages Includes SMS/MMS content, media attachments, and delivery status.
Calls Detailed Call Records (CDR), including duration, cost, and recordings.
Conferences Data regarding active and historical multi-party voice sessions.
Accounts Management of subaccounts, credits, and application settings.
Numbers Inventory of rented and ported phone numbers with capability tags.

Plivo Advanced Features

  • Automatic Credential Refresh: Membrane manages OAuth tokens server-side so sessions never expire during agent tasks.
  • Natural Language Action Discovery: Find the right API endpoint by describing your goal instead of browsing documentation.
  • Dynamic Action Generation: Automatically build new Plivo integrations on-the-fly if a specific action doesn't yet exist.
  • Headless Environment Support: Seamless login flows for remote servers and CI/CD pipelines using code-based verification.
