What is ProjectPilot?

ProjectPilot is a specialized addition to the library of Openclaw Skills designed to provide AI agents with a native, lightweight project management interface. It eliminates the need for complex external integrations by using a zero-dependency Python CLI to handle task lifecycles, deadline tracking, and priority management. This skill ensures that agents remain organized and accountable by maintaining a local record of project progress within the workspace.

By leveraging ProjectPilot, developers can empower their agents to initialize projects, assign tasks with specific metadata, and generate data-driven insights like burndown charts and overdue alerts. It is an essential tool for maintaining momentum in long-running agentic workflows where structure and clear milestones are critical for success.

ProjectPilot Use Cases

  • Tracking granular tasks and milestones within a coding repository using Openclaw Skills.
  • Managing sprint cycles and deadlines for multi-agent collaborative projects.
  • Prioritizing feature backlogs using integrated frameworks like RICE.
  • Automated generation of project status reports and progress summaries for human review.

How ProjectPilot Works

  1. The agent uses the Bash-based CLI to initialize a new project file stored locally in JSON format.
  2. Tasks are added to the project with specific attributes such as priority levels, due dates, and assignees.
  3. As work proceeds, the agent updates task statuses from todo to doing or done to reflect real-time progress.
  4. The skill processes the underlying JSON data to generate visual summaries, including completion progress bars and burndown metrics.
  5. Reports are generated based on the current state, identifying blockers and overdue items to keep the workflow on track.

ProjectPilot Setup

To begin using this project management capability within your Openclaw Skills environment, navigate to the skill directory and use the following commands:

# Initialize a new project
python3 scripts/project_tracker.py init my-project

# Add your first high-priority task
python3 scripts/project_tracker.py add my-project "Configure environment" --priority H --due 2026-05-01

# View the current project status
python3 scripts/project_tracker.py summary my-project

ProjectPilot Data Schema & Taxonomy

ProjectPilot organizes data within the OpenClaw workspace to ensure portability and easy versioning:

Component Location Details
Project Files data/projects/*.json Individual JSON files per project containing all tasks and metadata.
Templates references/pm-templates.md Standardized formats for status reports and RICE scoring models.
Task Schema Internal JSON Includes ID, Description, Priority (H/M/L), Status, Due Date, and Assignee.

ProjectPilot Advanced Features

  • Visual burndown charts to track completion velocity over time.
  • Integrated RICE framework scoring for objective task prioritization.
  • Automated identification and reporting of overdue tasks to prevent project drift.
  • Seamless project listing and multi-project management through a single CLI interface.
  • Markdown-compatible status report generation using pre-defined project management templates.
