What is Readeck?

Readeck is a robust Openclaw Skills integration designed for users who prefer maintaining their own self-hosted reading lists. This skill enables your AI agent to bridge the gap between discovery and archival by instantly capturing web content, technical blog posts, or research articles and sending them to your personal Readeck instance.

By utilizing this tool, developers can empower their AI assistants to manage high volumes of information without manual bookmarking. As part of the wider ecosystem of Openclaw Skills, it ensures that valuable data found during research sessions is preserved in a clean, readable format for later consumption.

Readeck Use Cases

  • Automatically archiving research materials identified by an AI agent during a web search.
  • Building an automated technical reading list by scraping developer documentation.
  • Curating a news feed based on specific topics and saving it directly to a homelab setup.
  • Enhancing AI research workflows by providing a persistent storage layer for web-based resources within Openclaw Skills.

How Readeck Works

  1. The AI agent or user identifies a URL that needs to be saved.
  2. The skill triggers the save.sh script, passing the target URL as the primary argument.
  3. The script authenticates with the user's self-hosted Readeck instance using a pre-configured Bearer token.
  4. An HTTP POST request is dispatched to the Readeck API bookmarks endpoint.
  5. Readeck acknowledges the request with a status 202 and begins fetching the article content asynchronously for the user.

Readeck Setup

To enable this functionality within your environment for Openclaw Skills, set the following environment variables in your shell profile or agent configuration:

export READECK_URL="https://your-readeck-instance.com"
export READECK_API_TOKEN="your-api-token"

You can generate your API token by navigating to Readeck -> Settings -> API tokens -> Create new token.

Readeck Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill interacts with the Readeck API using a streamlined JSON schema. It specifically targets the bookmarking endpoint to ensure quick archival with minimal overhead.

Property Description Format
url The web address to be archived String (Required)
status API response code (e.g., 202) Integer
message API success or error message String

Readeck Advanced Features

  • Support for self-hosted instances and custom subdomains.
  • Fully automated article extraction handled server-side by Readeck.
  • Lightweight CLI integration via save.sh for rapid execution within Openclaw Skills pipelines.
  • Seamless compatibility with multi-agent systems performing distributed research tasks.
