What is Redline?

Redline is a specialized tool within the Openclaw Skills library designed for precise legal contract review and automated drafting. Unlike generic AI summarizers that provide broad overviews, this skill operates at the paragraph level, allowing AI agents to analyze specific clauses, identify hidden risks, and propose tracked-changes directly in DOCX format. By integrating this capability into your legal workflow, Openclaw Skills users can ensure high-fidelity legal engineering that respects complex terms like liability caps, data processing agreements, and security certifications without manual overhead.

Redline Use Cases

  • Reviewing complex legal agreements paragraph-by-paragraph to identify liability and security risks.
  • Generating tracked-changes versions of DOCX contracts based on organizational playbooks using Openclaw Skills.
  • Drafting point-by-point responses to opponent comments within legal documents to speed up negotiations.
  • Analyzing privacy and AI-specific terms to ensure they do not exceed the actual service model requirements.

How Redline Works

  1. Initialize the review by running the contract review pipeline on a source DOCX file to generate a structured review JSON dataset.
  2. Conduct a granular analysis of each non-empty paragraph or bullet point, evaluating favorability and risk levels.
  3. Document specific assessments for every clause, including risk summaries and the logical reasoning behind each concern.
  4. Draft specific replacement language for every identified risk to create a narrow, operational redline.
  5. Respond to existing author comments found in the document to address the counterparty's concerns directly.
  6. Execute the materialize command within the Openclaw Skills environment to produce an amended DOCX file and a comprehensive risk report.

Redline Setup

To begin using this feature within your Openclaw Skills setup, ensure you have Python installed and the necessary contract review scripts available.

Initialize a new review project:

python scripts/contract_review_pipeline.py init-review \
  --input contract.docx \
  --output contract.review.json \
  --supported-party "Your Company Name" \
  --focus-area "Liability" \
  --focus-area "Data Privacy"

Generate the final redlined document and risk report:

python scripts/contract_review_pipeline.py materialize \
  --input contract.docx \
  --review-json contract.review.json \
  --amended-output contract.amended.docx \
  --report-output contract.risk-report.docx \
  --author "Codex Redline Reviewer"

Redline Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill utilizes a structured JSON schema to organize its findings, ensuring that Openclaw Skills can maintain data integrity throughout the review lifecycle.

Field Description
clauses[] Array containing paragraph-level risk data and proposed edits.
favorability Qualitative rating of how beneficial the clause is to your party.
risk_level Categorization of potential liability (Low, Medium, High).
proposed_replacement The specific text used for the tracked-change redline in the final DOCX.
opponent_comments[] Captured comments from the original document for drafting automated responses.

Redline Advanced Features

  • Multi-focus area targeting allowing for simultaneous review of AI, Privacy, and Security terms.
  • Automated author-specific comment tracking and point-by-point response drafting.
  • Granular risk-report generation detailing why specific changes matter to the business.
  • Full support for tracked changes within the Openclaw Skills materialized output for easy human verification.
