What is Remote Skill Test?

Remote Skill Test is a robust orchestration tool designed for developers working within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It bridges the gap between local development and remote environment validation by automating the entire lifecycle of testing an agent skill on a jump host. By handling SSH connections, environment sourcing, and dependency management, it ensures that your agent skills perform as expected in production-like environments.

The skill excels at providing structural validation. It doesn't just run a test; it retrieves generated reports, logs, and metadata to perform a deep-dive comparison against previous runs. This allows developers to verify that updates to a SKILL.md file are correctly reflected in the agent's output, flagging unexpected regressions or missing features automatically.

Remote Skill Test Use Cases

How Remote Skill Test Works

  1. Collects target skill name, SSH credentials, and test prompts from the user.
  2. Establishes an SSH connection to create a timestamped, isolated test directory on the remote host.
  3. Installs the complete repository of Openclaw Skills at the project level to ensure all runtime dependencies are met.
  4. Executes the target skill via opencode run using non-interactive flags and captures all output to a diagnostic log.
  5. Retrieves the generated markdown reports and execution logs from the remote host using SCP.
  6. Locates the previous test run on the remote host and downloads its data for structural comparison.
  7. Analyzes differences between the current and previous reports, correlating them with recent git changes in the local repository.
  8. Generates a comprehensive verdict (PASS/FAIL) based on report compliance and expected impact.

Remote Skill Test Setup

To use this skill, ensure your local and remote environments meet these requirements:

Remote Host Requirements

  • SSH access enabled with key-based authentication.
  • Node.js and npx installed (managed via nvm is supported).
  • OpenCode CLI installed and configured with appropriate LLM provider API keys.

Local Configuration

Ensure you are running within an Openclaw Skills repository context to allow the skill to read local SKILL.md files for comparison.

# Example of triggering the skill
opencode run "test skill remotely aws-fis-experiment-execute"

Remote Skill Test Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes results locally in a structured hierarchy to maintain a clear audit trail of all remote tests:

Directory/File Path Description
./test-results/{SKILL_NAME}/{TIMESTAMP}/ Root directory for a specific test session.
.../{TIMESTAMP}-report.md The current report generated on the remote host.
.../previous-run-report.md The report from the prior run used for comparison.
.../opencode-run.log Full execution logs (stdout + stderr) for debugging.
.../test-analysis.md The final analysis including compliance checks and diff results.
