What is skill-stats?

The skill-stats tool provides deep insights into how your AI agents utilize specific capabilities. By scanning session history and parsing tool invocation records, it offers a clear view of call counts, success rates, and last-used timestamps. This visibility is essential for maintaining efficient Openclaw Skills and optimizing agent workflows.

This skill helps developers identify redundant installations, unused skills, and potential performance bottlenecks within their AI-assisted development environments. It ensures that your workspace remains organized by highlighting active versus deleted skills across different scopes.

skill-stats Use Cases

  • Auditing AI agent performance by tracking success rates across different tasks.
  • Identifying and removing duplicate or redundant Openclaw Skills to keep the environment lean.
  • Analyzing historical usage to understand which tools provide the most value during development.
  • Monitoring skill invocation frequency to optimize resource allocation and agent behavior.

How skill-stats Works

  1. The script scans project session files located in either ~/.claude/projects/ or ~/.openclaw/agents/main/sessions/ based on the provided context.
  2. It extracts specific tool invocation records and parses skill-related metadata from the session logs.
  3. Success rates and call frequencies are calculated by analyzing the outcome of each tool call.
  4. The skill categorizes results by scope, such as built-in, user, or project-specific levels.
  5. Detailed statistics are generated and displayed in the terminal and saved to persistent JSON storage.

skill-stats Setup

To use this tool within your preferred environment, execute the statistics script using npx. Ensure you specify the correct context for your Openclaw Skills.

Claude Code Environment:

npx -y tsx ${SKILL_DIR}/scripts/main.ts --context claude-code

OpenClaw Environment:

npx -y tsx ${SKILL_DIR}/scripts/main.ts --context openclaw

skill-stats Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes usage data into structured JSON files for persistence and easy querying.

Path Description
~/.claude/skill-stats/global-stats.json Stores global usage metrics for Claude Code environments.
~/.openclaw/skill-stats/openclaw-global-stats.json Stores statistics specific to the OpenClaw workspace and global environments.

Each entry includes the skill name, call count, success percentage, and a timestamp for the last recorded use to help manage your Openclaw Skills.

skill-stats Advanced Features

  • Supports dual-environment tracking for both Claude Code and OpenClaw users seamlessly.
  • Automated identification of deleted or inactive skills to assist in environment cleanup and maintenance.
  • Scope-based categorization to differentiate between global, user-defined, and project-specific Openclaw Skills.
  • Detailed time-ago calculations to visualize the recency of tool interactions and session activity.
