What is Skill Tracker?

Skill Tracker is a specialized utility designed to bring transparency to your AI agent ecosystem. As a cornerstone of the Openclaw Skills framework, it automatically records every skill invocation, distinguishing between successful executions and failures. This allow developers to maintain a data-driven overview of their agent's capabilities without compromising privacy.

By providing a unified tracking interface for both Python and Node.js environments, Skill Tracker ensures that your entire toolkit is monitored under one roof. It operates with zero external dependencies and keeps all analytics data on your local machine, making it a secure choice for developers who need to optimize their workflows based on actual usage patterns.

Skill Tracker Use Cases

  • Identifying the most frequently used skills to prioritize optimization.
  • Detecting persistent skill failures that require debugging or configuration updates.
  • Auditing underutilized skills to streamline your AI agent's environment.
  • Generating comprehensive usage reports for performance benchmarking.
  • Visualizing success rate percentages across diverse skill sets.

How Skill Tracker Works

  1. The tracker is integrated into specific Python or Node.js skills using the provided SDK.
  2. Upon every skill execution, an automatic 'call' event is triggered and logged.
  3. Based on the execution outcome, the skill sends a 'success' or 'fail' signal back to the tracker.
  4. All events are stored locally in a JSONL log format for high-speed writing.
  5. The tool aggregates these logs into a structured statistical report whenever queried by the user.

Skill Tracker Setup

To get started with tracking in your Openclaw Skills environment, use the following commands:

# Navigate to the tracker directory
cd skills/skill-tracker

# Run a local report to see current stats
python3 skill_tracker.py report

# Verify the integration status of your skills
node scripts/check-integration.js

Skill Tracker Data Schema & Taxonomy

Skill Tracker maintains a lean local data structure within the skills/skill-tracker/data/ directory:

File Format Purpose
skill-stats.json JSON Aggregated statistics including total calls and success rates.
usage-log.jsonl JSONL Raw append-only logs of every individual skill invocation.

Taxonomy:

  • Call Count: Total number of times a skill was triggered.
  • Success Rate: Percentage of calls that finished without errors.
  • Temporal Data: First and last usage timestamps for lifecycle tracking.

Skill Tracker Advanced Features

  • Multi-language Support: Native SDKs available for both Python 3.6+ and Node.js 14+.
  • Customizable Retention: Configurable data retention periods (default 90 days) via config.yaml.
  • Low Latency Tracking: Optimized execution adds less than 1ms overhead per call.
  • Local-First Privacy: Zero external network requests; all data stays on your hardware.
  • Interactive Reports: Query stats via natural language commands like 'Which skill is most used?'
