What is Slap Detector?

The Slap Detector is a specialized hardware-interaction skill designed specifically for Apple Silicon MacBooks. By leveraging the built-in accelerometer via an MCP server, it allows your AI agent to perceive the physical world. This skill is a unique addition to the Openclaw Skills library, transforming a standard laptop into a sensory-aware device that can distinguish between minor vibrations and significant physical shocks.

Once integrated, the agent can monitor for physical events in real-time, providing a bridge between software logic and physical environment. This enables developers to create more interactive and responsive agent personalities that react with humor or concern when the hardware is handled roughly.

Slap Detector Use Cases

  • Creating interactive AI personalities that respond to physical touch or frustration.
  • Monitoring laptop safety by logging high-impact events or unauthorized movement.
  • Debugging hardware-adjacent software where physical triggers are required.
  • Enhancing the user experience of Openclaw Skills by adding a layer of physical feedback and haptic awareness.

How Slap Detector Works

  1. The agent connects to the slap-your-openclaw MCP server which requires administrative privileges to access the MacBook accelerometer.
  2. The skill enters a Warmup and Arming phase to calibrate the sensors against ambient vibration.
  3. The agent utilizes the slap_wait_for_event tool to pause execution until a physical impact exceeds the defined sensitivity threshold.
  4. When an impact is detected, the hardware classifies the event based on G-force amplitude into levels ranging from 1 (Micro-vibration) to 6 (Major shock).
  5. The agent processes the event metadata, including severity and event type, to trigger a contextually appropriate theatrical response.

Slap Detector Setup

To enable this skill, you must ensure your Apple Silicon MacBook has the necessary MCP server installed. Add the following configuration to your agent's MCP settings file:

{
  "slap-detector": {
    "command": "sudo",
    "args": ["slap-your-openclaw", "mcp"]
  }
}

Ensure that you provide the necessary permissions for the command to run with sudo to access the hardware sensors required for Openclaw Skills to function.

Slap Detector Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes physical impact data into a structured format for easy analysis:

Property Description Range/Values
level Numeric intensity of the event 1 to 6
severity Human-readable impact classification MICRO_VIB to CHOC_MAJEUR
type Categorization of the movement SLAP_EVENT or SHAKE_EVENT
amplitude Raw G-force measurement e.g., 0.15g
timestamp The exact time of the detected impact ISO-8601 String

Slap Detector Advanced Features

  • Dynamic sensitivity adjustment: Use slap_set_config to modify min_level thresholds without restarting the server.
  • Historical event auditing: Retrieve and summarize patterns of physical handling using the slap_get_events tool.
  • Adaptive personality matrix: Scripts that escalate reactions based on frequency and intensity of repeated impacts.
  • Multi-agent coordination: Share physical event triggers across different Openclaw Skills to sync hardware-aware behaviors.
