What is Submit PR?

The Submit PR skill provides a robust framework for managing the end-to-end process of contributing code to a repository. It focuses on security and standardization by integrating a multi-step verification process before any code is pushed to a remote server. By leveraging Openclaw Skills, developers can ensure their contributions meet professional standards without manual overhead.

This skill bridges the gap between local development and remote collaboration. It acts as a safety net by identifying potential credential leaks and enforcing a clean, readable git history through the use of conventional commit messages and structured Pull Request templates.

Submit PR Use Cases

  • Scanning changed files for leaked API keys, private keys, or environment variables before submission.
  • Enforcing the Conventional Commits specification across all team contributions to maintain a readable changelog.
  • Batching specific file changes into a single PR while explicitly excluding unrelated experimental modifications.
  • Standardizing the Pull Request description template to ensure all necessary testing steps are documented and linked to relevant issues.

How Submit PR Works

  1. Performs a security scan on all modified files using regex patterns to detect Ethereum private keys, OpenAI keys, GitHub tokens, and sensitive files like .env.
  2. Generates a summary of changes categorized by type (New, Modified, Deleted) and waits for user confirmation to proceed with the specific file scope.
  3. Analyzes the logic of the changes to generate a standards-compliant commit message in English, following the format of type(scope): subject.
  4. Pushes the confirmed changes to the remote branch and utilizes the GitHub CLI to create a structured Pull Request with a pre-defined testing checklist.

Submit PR Setup

This skill requires the GitHub CLI (gh) and git to be installed and configured on your local machine.

# Verify GitHub CLI authentication
gh auth status

# Run the skill with a title for your PR
openclaw run submit-pr "Your PR Title"

Submit PR Data Schema & Taxonomy

Data Element Type Description
Sensitive Patterns Regex Scans for 0x keys, sk-, ghp_, and Bearer tokens.
Commit Types Enum Supports feat, fix, docs, refactor, test, chore, and perf.
PR Template Markdown A structured body including Change Content, Testing, and Links.
File Status Git Categorizes files into Added (+), Modified (~), and Deleted (-).

Submit PR Advanced Features

  • Multi-stage validation: The skill strictly halts execution if sensitive data is detected, preventing accidental leaks to public repositories.
  • Interactive Staging: Users can selectively include or exclude files from the PR during the confirmation step.
  • Non-Model Invocation: Designed to work efficiently with local tools like grep and git to minimize latency during the scanning phase.
  • English-Only Constraint: Ensures all commit metadata is globally accessible by strictly enforcing English-only character sets in messages.
