What is God Mode?

God Mode is an infrastructure-based autonomy layer designed to maximize the potential of Openclaw Skills. Unlike traditional prompt-based agents that wait for user input, this skill implements a continuous heartbeat cycle that allows agents to wake up, evaluate priorities, and execute work independently. This transforms your workspace into a living environment where agents handle long-term goals, monitor systems, and perform background maintenance without human intervention.

By leveraging the Openclaw Skills architecture, God Mode provides a structured way for agents to persist state across sessions. It bridges the gap between simple automation and true agency by providing a dedicated memory system, a priority-based task queue, and a self-audit protocol that ensures high-quality output and operational safety.

God Mode Use Cases

  • Managing long-running research and data collection projects autonomously.
  • Background codebase maintenance including linting, documentation, and minor refactors.
  • Continuous monitoring of digital engagement and automated response workflows.
  • Managing complex multi-step devops pipelines through the Openclaw Skills framework.

How God Mode Works

  1. A heartbeat trigger sends a message to the agent session at a scheduled interval.
  2. The agent reads the TASKS.md file to identify the highest priority uncompleted work item.
  3. The agent executes the task using its available tools and logs the output.
  4. Result summaries are appended to a daily memory file and the state is updated in god-mode-state.json.
  5. The agent performs a self-audit to evaluate productivity and updates the task queue.
  6. The agent enters a sleep state until the next heartbeat cycle is triggered by Openclaw Skills.

God Mode Setup

  1. Copy the skill directory into your local installation:
cp -r god-mode ~/.openclaw/workspace/skills/
  1. Initialize the task queue in your workspace root:
touch TASKS.md
  1. Create the initial state file to track progress:
mkdir -p memory && echo '{"cycleCount": 0, "errors": 0}' > memory/god-mode-state.json
  1. Add a heartbeat schedule (e.g., every 30 minutes) to your agent configuration to enable Openclaw Skills autonomy.

God Mode Data Schema & Taxonomy

Component Format Description
TASKS.md Markdown The central priority queue containing Critical, High, Medium, and Completed tasks.
god-mode-state.json JSON Tracks lastCycle, cycleCount, totalTasksCompleted, and error rates.
memory/YYYY-MM-DD.md Markdown Append-only execution logs capturing every heartbeat action.
HEARTBEAT.md Markdown Defines the specific behavior and logic the agent follows on setiap activation.

God Mode Advanced Features

  • Auto-Hygiene sweeps every 12th cycle to archive stale files and compress old logs.
  • Intelligent error circuit breaker that pauses execution after 3 consecutive failures to prevent runaway costs.
  • Self-cleaning memory management that moves research and reference files to archives after 7 days of inactivity.
  • Audit-driven workflows that force the agent to reflect on its own productivity after every task execution.
  • Integrated guardrails that prevent the agent from performing irreversible actions without human approval.
