What is ticketmax?

ticketmax is a high-performance utility designed to bridge the gap between digital documentation and physical output. As a versatile addition to the Openclaw Skills library, it allows developers and automated agents to translate standard markdown syntax into professional-grade thermal receipts, reports, and tickets. By supporting the ESC/POS protocol, ticketmax ensures compatibility with a vast range of industrial and consumer thermal printers.

The tool goes beyond simple text by supporting complex layouts, including multi-column tables, images, and QR codes. Whether you are building an automated retail system or a personalized home dashboard, ticketmax provides the necessary interface to turn digital data into tangible physical media with minimal configuration.

ticketmax Use Cases

  • Generating automated physical sales receipts from ecommerce order workflows.
  • Printing real-time server health reports or system alerts for IT operations.
  • Creating physical QR code tickets for event management and inventory tracking.
  • Integrating physical notification triggers into developer workflows using Openclaw Skills.

How ticketmax Works

  1. The user or agent provides a markdown file or pipes raw markdown text into the ticketmax binary.
  2. The tool parses the markdown elements and maps them to specific ESC/POS printer commands (e.g., mapping h1 to double-size centered text).
  3. ticketmax establishes a connection to the target hardware using the address specified in the PRINTER_ADDR environment variable.
  4. Graphical elements like images and QR codes are processed and converted into bitonal data suitable for thermal printing.
  5. The payload is transmitted via TCP, USB, or Serial, followed by optional hardware commands like paper cutting or buzzer activation.

ticketmax Setup

To integrate this tool into your Openclaw Skills environment, install it via Go:

go install github.com/yatesdr/ticketmax@latest

Configure your printer connection by setting the primary environment variable:

# For Network Printers:
export PRINTER_ADDR=192.168.1.100:9100

# For USB Printers:
export PRINTER_ADDR=/dev/usb/lp0

ticketmax Data Schema & Taxonomy

The tool interprets markdown syntax to control printer-specific formatting. The following mapping is utilized:

Markdown Element Physical Output Effect
# Heading Bold, double-size, centered text
## Heading Bold, double-width, centered text
![alt](path) Image rendering (PNG, JPEG, GIF)
` Col
```qr Scannable QR code generation
<!-- cut --> Trigger hardware paper cutter
ticketmax Advanced Features
  • Support for standard input (stdin) allowing for dynamic, pipe-based document generation.
  • Fine-grained control over printer hardware features including buzzer alerts with configurable beep counts.
  • Adjustable character width and line spacing to accommodate various thermal roll dimensions (58mm, 80mm, etc.).
  • Native connectivity testing and status reporting for robust integration within Openclaw Skills automation pipelines.
