What is TimeBlock?

TimeBlock is a robust developer-centric utility designed for those who value intentionality and data privacy. Part of the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, it allows users to manage their daily schedules hour-by-hour using a structured time-blocking methodology. Unlike cloud-heavy alternatives, TimeBlock stores all data locally in flat log files, ensuring your productivity patterns and schedules remain entirely under your control.

The tool bridges the gap between manual planning and automated tracking by providing a command-line interface to log runs, analyze time allocation, and generate daily agendas. Whether you are a developer looking to protect deep-work sessions or a manager tracking team syncs, this skill provides the transparency and history needed to optimize your workflow without leaving the terminal.

TimeBlock Use Cases

  • Planning your day with hourly intentionality using generated schedules.
  • Tracking adherence to specific focus blocks to identify productivity leaks.
  • Analyzing long-term time allocation patterns across different project categories.
  • Batch-creating weekly agendas to reduce daily cognitive planning load.
  • Exporting local productivity data to CSV or JSON for custom dashboard reporting.

How TimeBlock Works

  1. The user initiates a time-blocking operation by executing a specific command (e.g., run, generate, or check) followed by the input details.
  2. The script captures the input and prepends a precise YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM timestamp.
  3. Data is appended to a command-specific log file and a global history.log within the local ~/.local/share/timeblock/ directory.
  4. Users can then query this data using built-in search, stats, or report functions to visualize their time usage.
  5. Structured data can be exported at any time into standard formats for external analysis or backup.

TimeBlock Setup

TimeBlock requires Bash 4.0+ and standard Unix utilities. No external API keys are needed to integrate this into your Openclaw Skills workflow.

# Clone or download the script to your machine
# Ensure the script is executable
chmod +x scripts/script.sh

# Run the version command to verify installation
./scripts/script.sh version

# Optional: Alias the script for easier access
alias timeblock='~/path/to/scripts/script.sh'

TimeBlock Data Schema & Taxonomy

TimeBlock uses a flat-file, pipe-delimited schema located in ~/.local/share/timeblock/. Each entry follows the format: Timestamp|Input.

File Description
<command>.log Categorized logs for specific actions (run, check, analyze, etc.)
history.log A master record of every operation performed in chronological order
export.<fmt> Temporary files generated during JSON, CSV, or TXT exports

TimeBlock Advanced Features

  • Multi-category logging: Separate tracking for 12+ distinct productivity operations.
  • Pattern Analysis: Use the analyze and compare commands to audit planned vs. actual time usage.
  • Global Search: Case-insensitive keyword searching across the entire local database.
  • Disk Management: Built-in stats command to monitor data growth and entry counts.
  • Local-First Architecture: Zero network calls, ensuring maximum privacy and speed.
