What is todo4google?

todo4google is a specialized utility designed for developers and power users who prefer managing their daily schedule within Markdown files while leveraging the Google ecosystem for synchronization and archival. As a key component of Openclaw Skills, it automates the lifecycle of a task from local creation to cloud-based tracking. It allows users to maintain weekly files that track ToDos, daily work logs (Works), and automated progress summaries, bridging the gap between local text editing and mobile-accessible task management.

todo4google Use Cases

  • Creating and managing a structured weekly work journal in Markdown format.
  • Automatically pushing local tasks to Google Tasks to maintain visibility across mobile devices.
  • Generating automated daily performance summaries based on completed items and work logs.
  • Archiving weekly progress reports directly to Google Drive as editable Google Docs.
  • Managing task priorities and deadlines through a simple, text-based interface.

How todo4google Works

  1. The skill identifies the target weekly Markdown file based on the current date, creating a new one from a template if it does not exist.
  2. Local tasks are parsed from the Markdown file, extracting metadata such as priority (p0, p1, p2), due dates, and descriptive notes.
  3. For any local task without a taskId, the skill uses the gog CLI to create a corresponding entry in Google Tasks and writes the returned ID back to the file.
  4. When a task is marked as complete in the Markdown file, the skill triggers a status update to the linked Google Task.
  5. At the end of the day, it generates a Summary section and carries over incomplete tasks to the next day or the next weekly file.

todo4google Setup

To integrate this with your Openclaw Skills, you must have the gog CLI tool installed and authenticated with your Google account.

# Install and login via gog CLI
gog login

# Default storage configuration
# Tasks are stored in archive/todos/
# Default Google Task List is named "openclaw"

todo4google Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data into weekly files (starting on Mondays) using the naming convention todos-YYYYMMDD.md. Each file follows a specific Markdown hierarchy:

Level Section Description
H1 # YYYY-MM-DD Daily root header
H2 ## ToDos Unordered list of tasks with [priority], taskId, and due date
H2 ## Works User-defined log of activities performed
H2 ## Summary AI-generated or automated completion status (e.g., 5/7 completed)
Meta taskId: xxx Unique identifier mapping the local task to Google Tasks

todo4google Advanced Features

  • Intelligent task rollover that preserves metadata like taskId and due dates for unfinished items.
  • Priority-based sorting that automatically reorganizes the Markdown list by urgency (p0 > p1 > p2).
  • Support for multi-line notes within tasks, ensuring detailed context is synced to the Google Tasks notes field.
  • Automated cloud archival that converts local Markdown files into Google Docs format on Google Drive for professional reporting.
