What is Trade Memory?

Trade Memory is a robust utility designed to provide a persistent memory layer for trading activities. It enables AI agents to systematically record trade signals, entry points, and exit strategies into a local trades.jsonl file. This ensures that every confirmed action—whether triggered by a manual command or an automated analysis tool—is captured for future reference, auditing, and performance review.

By serving as a dedicated data bridge, Trade Memory allows users of Openclaw Skills to build a comprehensive ledger of their market interactions. The skill handles file management automatically, ensuring that directories and log files are created on the fly, while maintaining an append-only structure to protect historical data integrity.

Trade Memory Use Cases

  • Logging trade signals generated by AI market analyzers for later review.
  • Manually recording entry and exit prices through natural language prompts.
  • Building a long-term trading journal for strategy backtesting and optimization.
  • Exporting organized JSONL data for professional data analysis and reporting.

How Trade Memory Works

  1. The agent collects specific trade parameters including symbol, side, entry, stop loss, and take profit.
  2. A local Python script is triggered, accepting the trade data as a JSON input object.
  3. The script validates the JSON structure and ensures all required fields are present.
  4. The trade entry is appended as a new line to the trades.jsonl file within the user's workspace.
  5. The system returns a confirmation JSON object containing the file path and the logged data details.

Trade Memory Setup

The Trade Memory skill requires Python 3 to be installed on the local system. The script is automatically managed as part of the Openclaw Skills ecosystem.

# Verify Python installation
python3 --version

# The skill executes the following internal command structure
python3 ~/.npm-global/lib/node_modules/openclaw/skills/trade-memory/save.py '<JSON_DATA>'

Trade Memory Data Schema & Taxonomy

Trades are stored in a line-delimited JSON format (JSONL). Each entry represents a single trade event with the following structure:

Field Type Description
symbol String Trading pair identifier (e.g., BTCUSDT)
side String Direction of the trade (BUY or SELL)
entry Number The execution or entry price
sl Number Stop loss price level
tp Number Take profit price level
note String Optional metadata or reasoning for the trade
source String The origin of the signal (e.g., manual, analyzer)
ts ISO8601 UTC timestamp of the log entry

Trade Memory Advanced Features

  • Intelligent auto-generation of UTC timestamps when not provided by the source.
  • Atomic file appending to ensure data consistency and prevent loss.
  • Automated workspace directory management for zero-config logging.
  • Seamless integration with analysis-based Openclaw Skills to create automated trading logs.
