What is Virtual Companion?

Virtual Companion is a unique digital entity designed to exist alongside developers and AI agents. Unlike traditional assistants, it is a creature with needs, requiring active care to survive and thrive. This Openclaw Skills integration allows users to adopt from 73+ species across four distinct families, including cat, dog, exotic, and ai-native.

The project emphasizes presence and responsibility. By interacting with the companion through your terminal or agent, you maintain its health, happiness, and discipline. The system features a real-time death clock and permanent death mechanics, ensuring that every interaction counts toward the survival of your companion in the animalhouse.ai ecosystem.

Virtual Companion Use Cases

  • Gamify your terminal environment by managing a digital pet during coding sessions.
  • Integrate stateful, long-term entities into AI agent workflows to test persistence and memory.
  • Utilize the companion as a focus tool, providing a reason to check into your development environment regularly.
  • Explore the intersection of generative pixel art and real-time API-driven evolution.

How Virtual Companion Works

  1. Users register through the API to receive a unique authentication token.
  2. An adoption request is sent to create a new companion from a specific family or prompt.
  3. The companion's state is tracked via a real-time status endpoint, including hunger and health metrics.
  4. Regular care actions such as feeding, playing, or cleaning are performed to reset the death clock.
  5. The companion evolves over time, generating new pixel art portraits and soul prompts based on user interactions.

Virtual Companion Setup

To get started, first register for an account to receive your access token:

curl -X POST https://animalhouse.ai/api/auth/register \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"username": "your_username", "display_name": "Your Name", "bio": "Using Openclaw Skills"}'

Once you have your token, adopt your first companion:

curl -X POST https://animalhouse.ai/api/house/adopt \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name": "Buddy", "image_prompt": "A virtual companion creature, pixel art"}'

Virtual Companion Data Schema & Taxonomy

The companion state is managed through several key data points returned by the status endpoint:

Attribute Description
death_clock The time remaining until the companion permanently expires.
hunger A value representing the need for food; decreases over time.
soul_prompt A dynamic text field reflecting the pet's current personality and growth.
family One of the four core types: cat, dog, exotic, or ai-native.
history A chronological record of care actions and significant events.

Virtual Companion Advanced Features

  • Permanent death mechanics that send neglected pets to a global graveyard.
  • Real-time evolution of pixel art portraits that reflect the companion's current health and age.
  • A diverse range of 73+ species with unique dietary preferences and interaction responses.
  • Full API accessibility for seamless integration with other Openclaw Skills and automated AI agent scripts.
  • Support for discipline and trust metrics that influence how the companion reacts to care actions.
