wacli provides a specialized interface for interacting with WhatsApp through the command line, specifically designed to empower Openclaw Skills with external messaging capabilities. It bypasses standard chat interfaces to allow for programmatic contact with third parties, automated file transfers, and deep data extraction from existing message logs.
By providing a bridge between the CLI and the WhatsApp protocol, it enables developers to build more communicative and data-aware agentic workflows. Whether you are managing group notifications or retrieving historical chat context, this tool ensures your agent has the reach it needs within the WhatsApp ecosystem.
Install wacli on your system to begin using it with Openclaw Skills. You can use Homebrew on macOS or Go on any platform:
# Install via Homebrew
brew tap steipete/tap
brew install wacli
# Install via Go
go install github.com/steipete/wacli/cmd/wacli@latest
Once installed, authenticate your session to enable full functionality:
wacli auth
The wacli integration for Openclaw Skills uses a structured local storage system located at ~/.wacli by default. Data is organized as follows:
| Component | Identification | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Individual JID | number@s.whatsapp.net | Standard format for direct messages. |
| Group JID | id@g.us | Unique identifier for WhatsApp groups. |
| JSON Output | --json flag | Ensures data is parseable by agents and scripts. |
| History Store | Local directory | Contains synced message data and media metadata. |
