What is wip-x?

The wip-x skill is a powerful dual-purpose tool designed for AI agents to interact directly with the X Platform. It operates as both a sensor, allowing agents to fetch specific posts, search recent tweets, and retrieve user profile data, and an actuator, enabling them to post new content, reply to threads, and upload media files. By integrating this skill into your library of Openclaw Skills, developers can create sophisticated social media workflows that bridge the gap between AI analysis and social execution.

This integration leverages the X API v2 and the official XDK to ensure reliable data retrieval and secure posting. Whether you are building a monitoring bot or an automated content creator, wip-x provides the necessary endpoints to manage engagement metrics, bookmarks, and account-level interactions with high precision and professional-grade stability.

wip-x Use Cases

  • Monitoring specific hashtags or keywords for real-time sentiment analysis or market research.
  • Automating the distribution of technical content or project updates directly to a social feed.
  • Archiving bookmarked tweets for integration with personal knowledge management systems.
  • Engaging with users by programmatically replying to mentions or quoting relevant threads with AI-generated insights.
  • Managing media-rich posts by uploading images and videos via the API for scheduled marketing campaigns.

How wip-x Works

  1. The agent authenticates using X API credentials, utilizing either a Bearer Token for read-only access or a full OAuth 1.0a set for read and write capabilities.
  2. When a read request is triggered, the skill calls functions like fetch_post or search_recent to pull raw JSON data from the X API v2.
  3. For write actions, the agent prepares the text content and processes any media through the upload_media function to obtain media IDs.
  4. The agent executes post_tweet, passing the text and optional media or reply metadata to the X platform.
  5. The skill returns the full API response, including status IDs or error messages, allowing the agent to confirm the action or handle rate limits.

wip-x Setup

To get started with wip-x, ensure you have an active developer account at the X Developer Portal. Configure your environment variables in your Openclaw Skills environment to enable full functionality:

export X_BEARER_TOKEN='your_bearer_token'
export X_API_KEY='your_api_key'
export X_API_SECRET='your_api_secret'
export X_ACCESS_TOKEN='your_access_token'
export X_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET='your_access_token_secret'

Ensure your application permissions in the X Developer Portal are set to 'Read and Write' if you intend to perform actuator actions like posting or deleting content.

wip-x Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill interacts with the X API v2 data structures and returns organized JSON objects. Key data points include:

Object Fields Included
Tweet ID, text, edit_history_tweet_ids, public_metrics, author_id
User ID, name, username, description, public_metrics (followers/following)
Media media_key, type, width, height, duration_ms
Metadata result_count, next_token (for pagination support)

wip-x Advanced Features

  • Supports multi-part media uploads for PNG, JPG, GIF, and MP4 formats with automatic MIME-type detection.
  • Full OAuth 1.0a support for user-specific actions including bookmark management and tweet deletion.
  • High-granularity search filtering including start/end time windows and specific sort order configurations.
  • Robust error handling for common API issues such as rate limits and permission-based 403 Forbidden responses.
  • Designed for seamless interoperability with other Openclaw Skills to create complex, multi-step automation chains.
