What is Skills Audit?

The Skills Audit skill is designed to maintain a clean and conflict-free environment for your AI agent capabilities. By scanning the local skills directory, it systematically identifies duplicate, legacy, platform-mismatched, or unapproved skills that may degrade performance or cause execution conflicts.

Optimizing your agent workflow with Openclaw Skills allows you to maintain high execution reliability. The tool compares your active capabilities against a golden reference list, ensuring your agent only utilizes verified and compatible workflows.

Skills Audit Use Cases

  • Detecting and removing duplicate or redundant skills to avoid execution conflicts.
  • Performing periodic system maintenance to keep the agent environment clean.
  • Identifying platform-mismatched skills designed for alternate environments.
  • Auditing Openclaw Skills and custom integrations to ensure compatibility with the host system.

How Skills Audit Works

  1. Directory Scan: The script scans the target directory (~/.workbuddy/skills/) to locate all active SKILL.md configurations.
  2. Analysis & Comparison: It compares discovered skills against a canonical golden reference list to check for approved status.
  3. Platform and Clutter Detection: Evaluates skills for specific keywords to identify platform mismatches or unknown custom scripts.
  4. Report Generation: Outputs a structured markdown report categorizing each skill as Approved, Review, or Platform-specific.
  5. Safe Removal: Guides the user through a safe, confirmation-based deletion of flagged or redundant skill folders.

Skills Audit Setup

To start auditing your Openclaw Skills, use the bundled python script to generate a cleanup report.

# Run the default audit scan
python scripts/audit_skills.py

# Run with custom options
python scripts/audit_skills.py --dir ~/.workbuddy/skills/ --golden references/golden-list.md --output skills-audit-report.md

Skills Audit Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill generates a structured markdown report skills-audit-YYYY-MM.md containing a classification matrix. It references configuration and canonical lists to organize the data taxonomy.

Report Classification States

Status Meaning Action
[OK] Approved Matches the canonical golden list Keep without modification
[!] Review Unknown skill not present in the golden list Manually review validity
[X] Platform: <name> Platform-specific skill (e.g., Clawdbot, Moltbot, OpenClaw) Candidate for removal

Asset Mapping

  • scripts/audit_skills.py: Execution script for directory analysis.
  • references/golden-list.md: Canonical list of approved Openclaw Skills.

Skills Audit Advanced Features

  • Custom Directory Auditing: Target specific directories using the --dir flag to audit alternative agent skillpaths.
  • Golden List Customization: Define your own canonical workflows by providing a custom reference file via --golden.
  • Regex-based Platform Detection: Automatically flags skills tailored for external environments such as CodeConductor.ai, Clawdbot, or Moltbot.
  • Interactive Safety Checks: Prompts for explicit user confirmation before executing any permanent file deletions.
