The Workflow Orchestration Skill is a specialized developer tool designed to bridge the gap between abstract natural language goals and deterministic execution. It compiles high-level business requirements into a statically validated Intermediate Representation (Plan IR) formatted as a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG). Rather than executing individual tasks itself, this skill functions strictly as an orchestrator, handling task decomposition, capability mapping, whitelist matching, and safety analysis. It is an essential structural component within the ecosystem of Openclaw Skills.
By decoupling the planning phase from the execution phase, it ensures that logical flaws, cycle loops, and unauthorized permission attempts are captured and mitigated statically. Downstream orchestration engines can confidently consume the resulting plans, achieving high-integrity automation with predictable execution behavior.
Ensure you have Python 3.8+ installed along with the required libraries.
Install the required dependencies:
pip install jsonschema networkx pydantic
Compile your natural language goal into a validated execution plan:
python3 scripts/compile_plan.py --goal "Verify payroll data and generate a financial summary report" --manifest skills_manifest.json --output plan.json
Validate the schema and graph topology of your generated plan:
python3 scripts/validate_schema.py --plan plan.json
python3 scripts/validate_topology.py --plan plan.json
The primary artifact generated is the plan.json conforming to a structured Plan IR format.
Each execution step (node) in the graph must contain the following properties:
node_id: Unique string identifier for the node.target_skill: The whitelisted skill bound to this task.purpose: Plaintext documentation detailing the node's task role.scoped_state_keys: Explicit array of state variables this node is authorized to read or modify.Transitions and dependencies between nodes are configured using edges:
from_node: The node that must complete first.to_node: The downstream node waiting on the predecessor.| Path | Description |
