What is Knowledge Placement Planner?

Knowledge Placement Planner is an executable workflow that combines input identification with a downstream business operation. It reads a request, computes a placement path, derives a recorded result, and creates or updates a business artifact in the explicitly selected output directory.

As an Openclaw Skills workflow, it defaults to local-only operation: without delivery configuration, it contacts no external service. When SMTP or an HTTP delivery endpoint is configured, it performs the declared delivery action and returns a receipt describing the outcome.

Knowledge Placement Planner Use Cases

  • Turn a structured request into a proposed knowledge-base placement path.
  • Save the computed business result as a local workspace artifact for review or follow-up.
  • Send a configured message or submit/register a record through an HTTP endpoint.
  • Run a repeatable, two-stage workflow from the command line and inspect its delivery status.
  • Keep processing local when external delivery credentials or targets are not configured.

How Knowledge Placement Planner Works

  1. Read the upstream request from the JSON file supplied with --input.
  2. Run the identification stage to compute the placement result, path.
  3. Pass that result into the downstream operation and compute recorded_path.
  4. Create or update the local business artifact beneath the required --output-dir.
  5. If SMTP or an HTTP endpoint is configured through environment variables or --delivery-config, perform the declared delivery action and produce a receipt with an outcome such as sent, delivered, failed, or unconfigured.
  6. Exit with a nonzero status when an error occurs; otherwise return the workflow output.

Knowledge Placement Planner Setup

Run the workflow with Python from the skill directory. The bundled request is an example input, and examples/expected.json documents the expected output shape; runtime paths and receipt identifiers are omitted from that example.

python scripts/run.py --input examples/request.json --output-dir ./workspace

To supply an explicit delivery configuration:

python scripts/run.py --input examples/request.json --output-dir ./workspace --delivery-config delivery.json

Delivery is optional. For SMTP, configure CLAWHUB_SMTP_HOST and, as needed, CLAWHUB_SMTP_PORT, CLAWHUB_MAIL_FROM, CLAWHUB_SMTP_USERNAME, and CLAWHUB_SMTP_PASSWORD; alternatively, provide smtp_host, smtp_port, and from_addr in the delivery configuration. For HTTP registration or submission, configure CLAWHUB_DELIVERY_ENDPOINT and optionally CLAWHUB_DELIVERY_API_KEY, or provide an endpoint object in the configuration. Delivery targets, credentials, and recipients must come explicitly from runtime configuration. With no delivery target configured, the workflow only writes the local artifact and makes no external calls.

Knowledge Placement Planner Data Schema & Taxonomy

The workflow uses a request JSON file as its upstream input and produces a two-stage result containing the identification path and downstream recorded_path. It also writes or updates a business artifact under the directory specified by --output-dir.

Location or field Purpose
examples/request.json Bundled upstream request example.
examples/expected.json Example of the complete two-stage output shape; runtime paths and receipt identifiers are excluded.
--output-dir Required destination for the local business artifact.
delivery receipt Reports the real delivery outcome when delivery is configured, including statuses such as sent, delivered, failed, or unconfigured.
scripts/upstream/ Identification-stage implementation: operation.py, validation.py, and config.json.
scripts/downstream/ Downstream delivery-stage implementation, including deliver_effect.
source-map.json Provenance information for both extracted stages.
scripts/run.py Entry point that runs the complete workflow.

Knowledge Placement Planner Advanced Features

  • Combined workflow: Runs identification, business-result computation, local artifact writing, and optional delivery as one executable process.
  • Explicit side-effect controls: Writes locally only to the supplied output directory; external communication occurs only when a delivery target is configured.
  • Multiple delivery modes: Supports SMTP message sending and HTTP registration or submission.
  • Runtime configuration: Accepts delivery settings through environment variables or an explicit --delivery-config file.
  • Delivery receipts: Reports delivery status and outcome identifiers when available.
  • Failure signaling: Reports errors through a nonzero process exit code.
  • Stage provenance: Includes a source map for the upstream identification and downstream delivery stages.
