What is WXPush?

WXPush is a specialized utility designed for Openclaw Skills that enables AI agents and automated scripts to send WeChat template notifications. It serves as a bridge between your backend logic and the WeChat messaging ecosystem, supporting three distinct API architectures: edgeone (the default high-performance option), wxpush (Frankiejun's project), and go-wxpush.

By centralizing your WeChat configuration, this skill allows for seamless status updates, system alerts, and personal notifications directly to your mobile device. Whether you are using a third-party gateway or hosting your own service, WXPush provides the necessary curl and Python integration to keep you informed in real-time.

WXPush Use Cases

  • Sending automated system alerts from AI agents to a mobile device
  • Delivering real-time task completion notifications for long-running processes
  • Integrating WeChat push capabilities into CLI tools and server-side scripts
  • Managing multiple WeChat notification channels using different API modes

How WXPush Works

  1. The skill identifies the user's preferred API mode (edgeone, wxpush, or go-wxpush) from the local configuration file.
  2. It loads the necessary credentials, including API tokens, AppIDs, and template IDs from the environment setup.
  3. Upon a push request, the skill constructs a payload containing the title and content of the message.
  4. It executes a network request using curl as the primary method, falling back to a zero-dependency Python script if curl is unavailable.
  5. The targeted WeChat service processes the request and delivers a template message to the specified user OpenIDs.

WXPush Setup

Create the configuration directory and file at ~/.config/wxpush/wxpush.env. Ensure permissions are restricted for security:

mkdir -p ~/.config/wxpush
touch ~/.config/wxpush/wxpush.env
chmod 600 ~/.config/wxpush/wxpush.env

Populate the environment file with your specific Openclaw Skills provider details:

WXPUSH_API_URL=https://your-service.com
WXPUSH_API_TOKEN=your_token
WXPUSH_MODE=edgeone
WXPUSH_USERID=openid1|openid2
WXPUSH_TEMPLATE_ID=template_id

WXPush Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill manages its configuration using a standard environment file structure. Below is the metadata and file organization used by WXPush within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem:

File Path Description Access Type
~/.config/wxpush/wxpush.env Stores API URLs, Tokens, and WeChat credentials Read/Write
references/*.md Mode-specific API documentation and technical specs Read-only

Environment Variables Table:

  • WXPUSH_MODE: Determines the API format (edgeone, wxpush, go-wxpush).
  • WXPUSH_SKIN: (Optional) UI skin for edgeone mode notifications.
  • WXPUSH_BASE_URL: (Optional) Redirect URL when the notification is clicked.

WXPush Advanced Features

  • Multi-mode support for switching between different third-party or self-hosted WeChat gateways
  • Zero-dependency Python fallback ensures notification reliability in restricted environments
  • Native support for multiple 'skins' (e.g., Cyberpunk, Hacker Dark) when using the edgeone engine
  • Multi-user broadcasting by piping multiple OpenIDs into the USERID configuration
  • Automatic environment bootstrapping for new Openclaw Skills users
