What is xbird?

xbird is a robust Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to bridge the gap between AI agents and the Twitter/X platform. By utilizing Openclaw Skills like xbird, developers can empower their agents to perform complex social media tasks, from posting multi-tweet threads to performing deep searches and managing account profiles. The skill operates locally from your residential IP, ensuring high reliability and reducing the risk of automated account flagging typical of centralized API services.

This integration stands out by offering a granular set of 34 tools categorized by function, such as reading timelines, performing bulk operations, and managing media. With the inclusion of x402 micropayments on the Base network, xbird provides a scalable and sustainable model for agentic social media engagement, making it a premier choice among Openclaw Skills for developers building the next generation of social AI.

xbird Use Cases

  • Automating daily news summaries and posting them as Twitter threads.
  • Monitoring specific hashtags or mentions to provide real-time AI-powered customer support.
  • Synchronizing profile bios and avatars across multiple accounts using local image files.
  • Conducting deep social research by fetching user followers, likes, and detailed account metadata.
  • Managing engagement by automatically liking or bookmarking relevant industry content.

How xbird Works

  1. The AI agent initiates a request via the MCP client, such as Claude Code, targeting a specific xbird tool.
  2. xbird authenticates using provided session tokens to interact with the Twitter/X web interface.
  3. For paid operations, the system leverages x402 micropayments via a private key on the Base network (USDC).
  4. The tool executes the requested action, such as uploading media or fetching a user timeline, from the user's local residential IP to maintain authenticity.
  5. The results are returned to the AI agent in a structured JSON format for further processing or response generation.

xbird Setup

To begin using this skill, add the server to your environment:

claude mcp add xbird -- npx @checkra1n/xbird

Configure the following environment variables in your shell or ~/.claude/settings.json to enable Openclaw Skills functionality:

  • XBIRD_AUTH_TOKEN: Extracted from x.com cookies (auth_token).
  • XBIRD_CT0: Extracted from x.com cookies (ct0).
  • XBIRD_PRIVATE_KEY: (Optional) Your wallet private key for x402 payments on the Base network.

Ensure you are logged into Twitter/X in your browser to retrieve the necessary cookie values from the DevTools Application tab.

xbird Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill processes data through several specific structures to maintain high-fidelity interaction with Twitter/X:

Data Type Description Key Fields
User Profile Comprehensive account data userId, handle, bio, followerCount
Tweet Object Individual post content tweetId, text, mediaUrls, replyCount
Media ID Reference for uploaded assets mediaId (returned from upload_media)
Timeline List of chronological posts Supports cursor based pagination

Note that bulk tools require a numeric userId, which must be resolved from a handle using the get_user tool first as part of the standard Openclaw Skills workflow.

xbird Advanced Features

  • Micropayment Integration: Uses x402 on Base for metered, pay-as-you-go tool usage ranging from $0.001 to $0.05 per call.
  • Multi-Media Threads: Supports posting automated threads with at least two tweets and attached media IDs.
  • Advanced Search Operators: Filter results by date, user, media types, and exclusion patterns (e.g., -filter:retweets).
  • Profile Automation: Programmatic updates for avatars, banners, and bio text via local file paths for dynamic branding.
  • Residential IP Execution: Minimizes the risk of bot detection by running requests directly from your local network environment.
