What is Xdrop?

Xdrop is a specialized utility within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem designed for developers who need to manage secure file transfers directly from their terminal or AI agent environment. It leverages client-side encryption to ensure that files uploaded to an Xdrop server remain private, requiring a specific fragment key for decryption.

By utilizing this skill, users can seamlessly integrate secure sharing into their automation pipelines. Whether you are distributing build artifacts or fetching sensitive logs, Xdrop handles the heavy lifting of encryption, chunked uploads, and manifest preservation with minimal configuration.

Xdrop Use Cases

  • Sharing build reports or archives securely via a terminal interface.
  • Automating the download and local decryption of sensitive assets using Xdrop share links.
  • Integrating encrypted file transfers into CI/CD pipelines or AI agent workflows.
  • Programmatic management of file expiry and transfer metadata for temporary data sharing.

How Xdrop Works

  1. The user provides a local file path or an Xdrop transfer URL to the AI agent.
  2. For uploads, the skill uses Bun to execute specialized scripts that encrypt data locally before sending it to the specified Xdrop server.
  3. The server returns a transfer ID and a shareable link containing the decryption key in the URL fragment (#k=...).
  4. For downloads, the skill fetches the encrypted blobs from the server and uses the fragment key to decrypt the files into a local directory.
  5. Structured output (JSON) is optionally generated to allow other Openclaw Skills or tools to consume the transfer metadata.

Xdrop Setup

To use Xdrop, ensure you have the Bun runtime installed and network access to your target Xdrop server. Configure the skill by pointing it to your server URL.

# Example of uploading a file
bun scripts/upload.mjs --server <xdrop-site-url> <file-path>

# Example of downloading a transfer
bun scripts/download.mjs "<full-share-url-with-key>"

Xdrop Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data based on transfer IDs and preserves original file structures. Metadata is handled as follows:

Attribute Description
transferId The unique identifier generated by the Xdrop server.
shareUrl The complete URL including the essential decryption fragment.
outputRoot The local directory where files are decrypted (default: ./xdrop-<transferId>).
expiresAt The timestamp indicating when the transfer will be deleted from the server.

Xdrop Advanced Features

  • Support for --json flags to enable headless automation and integration with other Openclaw Skills.
  • Custom expiry settings via --expires-in to control data persistence.
  • Parallel upload management with --concurrency flags for high-performance transfers.
  • Quiet mode execution to suppress progress bars for clean stdout capture in scripts.
