Athena is a local-first, open-source desktop control surface and AI workshop designed for AI coding agents. It provides a centralized command room that unifies multiple AI agents like Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, and Hermes with a shared project context. By utilizing an embedded PTY terminal framework and an MCP bridge, Athena allows AI agents to directly control and interact with the user's workspace. Unlike cloud-dependent tools, Athena keeps all memory, history, and orchestration locally on the user's machine, featuring persistent local memory, session recall, a Tailscale-powered mobile companion app, and system-wide voice dictation.
To use Athena, install Athena Code locally by running the provided installation script in your terminal: `curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/luckeyfaraday/athena-code/main/scripts/install.sh | bash`. Once installed, you can launch the desktop command room to manage your coding agents, resume existing project sessions, and allow agents to interact with your workspace via the built-in MCP bridge.
