Mastra is an open-source TypeScript framework for building, deploying, observing, and improving AI agents and AI-powered applications. It provides agent development tools, typed workflows, memory, workspaces, MCP support, human-in-the-loop functionality, model routing, and built-in observability. Developers can use Mastra with React, Next.js, Node.js, Hono, and other JavaScript or TypeScript environments to create internal automation agents, customer-facing assistants, developer platforms, and multi-step workflow applications. Mastra projects can be self-hosted under the Apache 2.0 license or deployed through Mastra Platform with managed infrastructure, monitoring, storage, and enterprise capabilities.
Create a Mastra project with the CLI by choosing a project name and supported model provider such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or xAI. Define agents with instructions, models, tools, and memory, then compose workflows with typed steps, branches, retries, and human approval. Register the agents and workflows on a Mastra server, run the development server locally, and open Mastra Studio at http://localhost:4111 to build, test, evaluate, and manage them. Mastra applications can then be deployed to Node.js-compatible environments, cloud platforms, or self-hosted infrastructure.
